The journey starts - 5.45am alarm - 6.30 taxi - 6.55 train (Doncaster to Kings Cross) - Piccadilly line to LHR - and finally to the clubhouse at about 10.15am. About 2 hours there so just time for a few redheads and some lunch.

Boarded at first call. Had 12A and 12K so our feet could touch as the stewardess told us. First time on a LHR 747 in UC and loved the nose section, so much space!

Had a fillet steak with Bearnaise source - very nice. My wife who is dairy intolerant got the Chicken dish with plain veg. Afternoon tea also taken.

Tried the bar but did'nt really work. A guy, rather flamboyantly dressed in a kilt, was giving the FSM hell over his flight experience (ranging from the UC taxi transfer to the lack of upgrade for his wife) so difficult to enjoy a drink. Retired back to the peace of 12A/K.

Was reading Private Eye for the journey - and appropriately one crossword clue involved Richard Branson and Virgin Galactic. The answer was "A FART IN A SPACE SUIT".

Really enjoyable flight, on time, little turbulance. Just got to find a way of affording this every time.

Immigration about 15 mins, luggage about another 10 mins. Had booked Execucar transfer and that also worked perfectly.

That's a shame. Good to know though that Mr Kilty was a sharing kind of guy, in trying to make everyone have as poor an experience as he clearly thought he was having.

Have made this trip many times, and a similar journey to Gatwick. Only issue was once when the taxi failed to show, so my wife phoned. They said they had no booking and then went "Oh yeah - we came yesterday, do you still want a taxi?". Managed to flag a neighbour down who took us to the station.

Me too! I used to take the early morning flight from Cork to connect to that flight until the time that we were boarded and ready for an on-time departure. ATC in LHR held back the flight because of congestion there and we left over 30 minutes late and so arrived 30 minutes late. After that it was a complete scramble to get over to T3 in time to check in (it was before OLCI) and my arrival in the (old) CH was enough only to grab a quick bite to eat as I had no chance to grab anything to eat in Cork and at that stage, Aer Lingus were only offering biscuits. After that I swore that I would never take the early morning flight for any flight departing before midday as the stress was too much to bear.

I now fly the night before and find it much more relaxing - well apart from the time that the late flight was so seriously delayed that we arrived in LHR at 4am via LTN!!!

If there were seats in UC he should have bought her a ticket then. Can't abide it when people think it is their right to an upgrade, even worse if they buy one ticket in a premium cabin expecting the other will be upgraded by default.
