What does everyone think about the recently announced Vivienne Westwood designed uniforms? Better or worse than present?

Being rolled out from 1st September. Personally I think they're pretty smart and different, it'll certainly add an extra touch to the new fleet.

Looks like something out of an Austin Powers movie. A step backwards IMHO.

I think they're fantastic, they look amazing. Much better and more modern than the ones they have now. I just hope they look as good on the crew as they do in the shoots! Not everyone is a size 8 or 30/38 after all!
I'm not sure how often they get replaced but I would hope they get a new uniform every 6 months to keep it looking fresh. If not I'm afraid it could end up looking awful.
The ones they wear now all look tired!

I think the new uniform looks quite neat actually, and I'm loving the red coats! Secretly want one for myself this winter...

I'm with mitchja -IMHO they're hideous. I've seen them on both male and female crew on flights and the female uniform looks hideous on anyone with a bust or hips and the neckline of the blouse is like something that I wore in the 80s. One female crew who was wearing the new outfit said she felt very self -conscious in it ( because she wasn't a size 8).
The male uniform looks like the kind of thing men in 70s dancebands wore.

I like the female uniform and thought it looked good on the test crew we had on our flight.
We also had a male test crew and I like the style, but think the colour isn't good at all.

IMHO the press release is all about the coat.

Mid-flight, that isn't really what the pax or crew care about. Is it?

Several mixed views then lol. Looks ok in the photos, but we'll see if my opinion changes when I see it in person in a few months time.

To me it looks fairly modern though, so maybe it's one of those trends that's done a full circle and is back in ;).

I personally think the new uniforms look great. That coupled with some new aircraft will give everything a bit of a lift and a refresh.

Much better than the plain, 10-year old, John 'Debenhams' Rocha uniform or even the Emanuel uniform.

Compare them to the 1984 launch uniforms...

My personal opinion is the collars on the Ladies jackets look as though they were borrowed from Elvis Presley's old outfits, blouses definitely 1980's, I'd be embarrassed to wear something that looked like that.

Old Viv looked as though someone had dug her up from her grave, maybe that's why she had a flashback on the design! The male uniforms are straight from Thunderbirds!

If there is one thing I can say about uniforms is that you can be certain you will never please everyone. We all like to be individual in our clothing, but as the word implies, wearing corporate clothing requires you to dress in a uniform manner :w

The proof of the pudding will be how the uniform items "wear" over time and how easy they are to keep smart during a flight.

Does she not always look like that lol? Every time I've come across her recently she looks pretty scary.

^^^this

as a local lad, i remember her from the 70s in sex, later seditionaries, she was on the scary side then

still regret not taking better care of the day-glo tiger stripe t-shirts, one pink, the other green, they were sooooooo lovely

When I first saw pictures of them some time ago, I wasn't really taken with them but over time I've come to feel OK about them. Certainly the John Rocha uniforms were becoming seriously dated. I love the coat and also the handbag which was demonstrated on FB with a really cute model! ;)

Was she the only cabin crew wearing the new uniform? If she was, I can understand her feeling self-conscious. I would in those circumstances

I'll need to see them in person to fully decide, but the cut looks much more upmarket than the current offering. I love the coat, especially when it's worn open. It hangs really nicely.

The female ones are made of the same recycled plastic as the amenity kit bags so I don't think they will wear well.

Ok, I take your point. She's always looked scary :P. Perhaps she thinks it's Halloween everyday!?

So effectively they're dressed in amenity kit bags...!? They may look nice, but if I had to wear one that's one thing I'd never be able to get out of my mind :S.

No she wasn't. Her point was that it doesn't really flatter anyone who looks like a woman ie isn't straight up and down ( and it didn't ) . She was what I would consider "normal" so I'm disappointed that VS have gone with a design that makes a real sized women ( in the year 2014 ) look a bit odd.

Looking at the latest pictures and the ones shown earlier, it seems to me that there has been some tweaking done to the uniforms. There seems to be less frill on the blouse and the neck is a tad lower. No doubt those wearing them up till now were giving feed-back which has been taken into account and adjustments made.

ultreen1 wrote:I'm not sure how often they get replaced but I would hope they get a new uniform every 6 months to keep it looking fresh. If not I'm afraid it could end up looking awful.

Replacing them every 6 months is a tad unrealistic. Remember cabin crew don't work on a five day week basis so are not wearing them day in and day out. Granted that when flying long-haul, especially to places like HKG and NRT, they will be wearing them continually for longer than an 8 hour day, bearing in mind that they will be worn from the minute they leave home and until they arrive at their destination hotel (and vice versa), but in between flights the clothes will have the chance to "rest" which should help keep them looking fresh.

I agree. y)

There is a clear dichotomy between the tall and willowy cabin crew VS use in their media promotions and the crew I have encountered on the aircraft, who are invariably more of a normal size and shape for the UK (ie shorter and more rotund in comparison).

Thankfully I get away with an open-neck casual shirt and chinos at work. I ditched the lab coat years ago thankfully :)

Yes, funny how VS always use similar cabin crew for any of their photo's isn't it lol!!

I still wear a lab coat here for work....though it's drowned in other PPE these days :)

There's one comment on that article " didn't Branson make his first money dodging on LPS " I struggle to see what that has to do with the uniforms, some people are just mindblowing with stupidity
