Hello,

I have booked a flight on VS25 LHR-JFK next Month. Has anyone had any experience of doing this flight?

Is it busy? Is JFK as quiet as I hope it will be? Anything else I should know about late transatlantic flying?

Regards

Hi,

Normally I favour an earlier flight into EWR, but I'm on this flight today as it goes so I can give a more recent update later.

From past experience its nice to have a quieter immigration hall than you get on the afternoon flights, but taxis can be thinner on the ground.

I find its a tiring flight getting in at an ungodly hour (on UK time). But that makes it easier to nod off and get some sleep. A good session in the club house before, makes that even easier, but then I generally feel awful on arrival... but you might conclude that this is largely self induced, and not the fault of the later flight. :P

The late flights are great for jet lag provided you stay awake on the flight, and get your head down when you get to your hotel room.

Yep, have done it a couple of times.... I think one of my TRs is in the toolbox for it too somewhere (posted when they brought it back ;) )

It is a fairly busy flight being the last one out to NYC of the day, but a good flight none the less.

The JFK customs hall is a different one.... they have been quite efficient of late but with the night landing flights there are always fewer staff on the desks and usually delays with inbound aircraft, so there could be a heavy wait ahead or it could be a breeze.... heads or tails on that one. ii)

Traffic into Manhattan is usually fairly quiet at that time of night :w

Any other questions, ask away 8D

New automatic passport reading machines made immigration at JFK a breeze (for once). Long may that continue :)

VS 25 was fine Monday. What has happened to the initial drinks run though, another corner being cut, or a case of not happening on flights where the meal service is run as soon as possible? Oh well, not a problem really. Slept for a couple of hours which was nice, and got into Manhattan in excellent time.

I may be persuaded to take this later flight more often.

I think that on flights which depart after 8pm local they don't do a pre- meal drink run.
