Those of you that have read my assorted witterings over the past couple of years will know that there has been a long running battle of wills in my family about whether splashing out on anything other than the cheapest economy tickets constitutes profligacy of the worst kind.

I recall with particular fondness my bucket flight to Grenada about 8 years ago, on XL airways, 2 kids in tow... But I digress...

So last year was a step in the right direction, with my first trip in PE. But I've just taken it to a whole new level - with no less than BA CW returns on my easter hols next year!!! I'm in shock, and shouldn't count my chickens just yet, but I'm hoping that this could be the start of a new era.

Thanks to BA by the way for their astonishing sale prices right now, not to mention loads of CW redemption availability for one leg, against the cheapest of WTP fares, and on a school holiday date. £6K for an AI 5* holiday seems to me like the bargain of the century

My conversion to the dark side is seriously gaining pace...

I like CW, apart from the leg jump to get anywhere. It's particularly annoying if it's someone you don't know and during sleep time.

6K is an incredible price. I thought our 9K for 11 nights (AI) in ANU was good (4 of us UC both ways), that was in the VS UC sale. BA couldn't come anywhere near in CW.

Have a great time, will look forward to the TR's.

Thank you. Turning left is familiar enough to me, just not when it's my own money! And at least my BA gold status gets me free seat requests... On that subject, it's a 3 class 772 and we went for 10/11 AB as it looks like a little mini J cabin, anyone more experienced able to comment on that choice?

the mini cabin is very nice, 10 a is very private B slightly less as its an aisle an near the galley/loos

you might also want to consider the inner pair , especially for a night flight. that's what I would go for travelling together

I know some people quite like the centre pair seats, but having seen them several times before, they seem claustrophobic and hemmed in to me. Anyway, with our cherubs in tow, I think I'd prefer to corral them in the A seats! I have seen other families put the kids in a lowe class while the parents are in CW, but frankly I could see that would have 'disaster' written all over it for us, given they will only be 11/9 years old...

Buns, thanks, if I'm still married by next April, I'm confident it will have worked out well :-)

Mini cabin great on the 3 class we have got 15 of the 16 seats booked for a family holiday to Jamaica in Feb 2015 I love the 777 and it's quite an amazing vies looking back down the aircraft when taking off backwards and seeing he snake on snaking on take off. I agree about pricing and the paying for seats (I'm gold so all 15 were free to book) is so red herring as the same holiday through VS would have been over 40% more plus get don't have the same capacity for UC on that route. 10/11 great seat choices

I agree the A seats in that cabin give so much in the way of privacy it's hard to turn them down.

However, having done the 'child' in UC, believe me when I say they won't want to go further back anytime soon. Much as I would love to stick them further back, it isn't going to happen without a huge battle (and one that I will probably lose). Far easier to keep them up front and use it as a bargaining tool later. :D

Paul, I am sure you get along fine with your family and wil have a blast but your post has now conjured up images in my mind of us going on holiday with our extended family and it has made me feel quite ill!

It would be like a "Munsters on Tour" scenario. Dear God, noooooooo! I would be trying to exit the aircraft, even at 37,000 feet!!! ):

Welcome to the Dark side RC 8D

Sale prices and ease of use for avios to upgrade make it a no brainer for me. I am a lucky one though, given I usually renews VS AU quite quickly, and then have the unenviable task of deciding whether to push for the unknown heights of UNIQ (not easy given my travel these days is mostly leisure) or to switch to the dark side of the force..

Call me Darth Ambrosius ;)

Hope you enjoy CW.
