Hi
We are flying to LA with Virgin later this year I am having trouble co ordination my car hire as we don't want the car until we leave LA so want to pick it up at a location nearish to Hotel at least a taxi ride away, but they almost all seem to be pick up from the airport we don't mind this but is it easy enough to collect a car from the airport when you have not just flown in and are arriving in a taxi to collect car from the hire part of the airport??

Thanks

We always stay overnight and get a taxi from the hotel next day and pick the hire car from whoever we have hired from. :) :)

Where are you staying? Enterprise have some quite convenient locations in Hollywood & West Hollywood (including, I think, one right next door to the Standard Hotel on Sunset Blvd).

But for the best choice of firms and cars the airport is probably best. The car hire places are all off airport, mostly to the north east of LAX off Airport Blvd, behind the main strip of chain hotels. If you're coming from elsewhere in the LA area getting there via cab is easy enough but won't be cheap.

If this helps I am half way through a road trip and didn't need my car until my third day. As I landed I just my car up from alamo and got the shuttle bus. Really very easy and then drove to hotel, was staying in hollywood and hotel had $10 parking. So just cost extra $20 in total, which for the area is cheap.

I think I understood what you wrote, you arrive into LAX and staying at a hotel the first night or two, needing car rental afterwards? Question is where are you staying, of course, it at an airport hotel then it's an easy ride (via cab, or hotel shuttle to airport then car rental shuttle to pick up) but it sounds like you're staying further afield? Check out the places where your rental company has for pick-up, some have hotel desks for example the downtown Marriott has a nearby Hertz and they will deliver the car to the hotel. There are rental locations across LA, do a search on the rental company web site and then arrange your pick up from there with drop-off at LAX if that's your last call.

Or, are you on a deal with the flight and car meaning you have fixed rental dates? Why not call them up and say you don't need the car for the first couple of days and are there any local options to your hotel to arrange pick up?
