Hilton LHR T5 - what's it like?

Hi all,

I'm looking to book my overnight for my Boston trip in October and some of the hotels are coming back with ridiculous rates, including Hilton T4, whereas Hilton T5 is coming back with something a bit more reasonable for an executive room with lounge access.

Has anyone stayed here and what's it like if you have? How easy to get to (Hoppa bus?).

Think the Hoppa bus thing has changed now. Seem to think I have read somewhere you phone the hotel and they send a someone to pick you up.

Used a CDC for the ultimate check in the next again day which was a little outrageous but very nice for the flight to MIA. forum/index.php?f=6&t=275648&rb_v=viewtopic

Would use it again especially if the collection side is better. The Hoppa bus thing isn't the best.

Tried the Sofitel or lastminute.com 5* secret hotel (The Sofitel)?

Thanks David, I'm always cautious of Hilton's because of past experience, so am reassured. I have sued DTCI and loved it, might do it this time round too.

Locutus the Sofitel is coming in at more than I want to pay and it doesn't appear to be showing on Lastminute's secret hotels list. Strangely too, they've downgraded it to 4 star when it should be 5.

I'm still searching...

Stayed there a couple of times. It is relatively new and has good restaurants and bar. The executive lounge was also fine.
It is a short trek from the airport on the Hopper but that's no hardship. Also it is located on an industrial estate, but again don't let that put you off, the hotel itself is nicely situated in its own grounds.

Stayed in November prior to JFK. We booked a standard but having status gained a club, albeit we were too late for the lounge. So can't comment on that.

The hotel was very slick, cool and quiet. Not your usual Hilton.

Room was a fair size for LHR and we used the hoppa to get to the terminal in the morning. It was right to the door and very cheap. We parked out back of the hotel on some sort of rough ground.....not great for a nice car, but acceptable if you can off road in the wet.

I do recall that a glass of wine and a small beer was £19 ish.

I sipped slowly!

I stayed at the T5 Hilton on Friday, did not seem very busy.

As with may "T5" hotels it is not that close to the terminal ( The HI T5 Express is almost in Slough) but very good standard and excellent service and the transfer should not take too long if you avoid shift change on the Poyle industrial estate that surrounds the hotel.

Drinks are pricey indeed but not disproportionally so as there are no cheap drinks @ Heathrow.

I'm still making up my mind but the Hilton T5 is looking good. I also like the Radisson Blu brand, but at present the Hilton is looking nicer. I don't have Hilton status but would happily pay for the executive room, although I recognise it's a bit of a jump in price between a standard and exec.

I'm fussy about where I stay, as I think most of us are, but aware it's only an airport hotel. That said, it's also the start of my holiday, so I try and balance the cost (in case a certain someone starts asking too many questions about what it all costs!!) with that fact in mind. Of course the hotel restaurants and bars, however good, are always overpriced, but that's par for the course isn't it? And I do like to have a nice meal and a little drinkette...

So will it be the Hilton T5? We'll see, but thanks all for your views.

I've just remembered (after logging in) that I've almost £100 credit from Hotels.com Welcome Rewards, now that makes my choice of hotel a bit more interesting...

I've not stayed at the T5
I've stayed at T4 Hilton when I flew out of T4 and also at the Gatwick Hilton.
They were both much of a muchness. I paid £30 extra for an executive room on my last visit, which didn't seem any different from the standard room, but the big bonus was access to the lounge. As a couple we saved well over £30 on food and drink.

Sorry to come late to the party, but the Sofitel is on Hotwire.com as the 5* hotel in LHR - picked up 2 nights at 187USD inc tax per night in September.

It's also the only hotel on Priceline.com for the LHR area for the Negotiator bidding. You can get more bids by selecting the areas surrounding LHR without a 5* hotel. Did this in July and got it for 145USD inc tax

I think my problem is I'm looking for a Thursday night rather than Friday, Saturday or Sunday when many deals are on. That said, my last stay on a deal at Sofitel was also a Thursday. Still I've got 3 months yet so there's time to find a deal I like.

I stayed at the T4 last time if flew from LHR - and loved it...

The hotel its self is nice, good pool and gym for relaxing and decent food options if your hungry. These are however a little expensive for what you get, but 3 places to choose from so I am sure you will find something nice. The Exec lounge is a little small for my liking, but still decent and the beer selection is ok. Just outside you get a good view of the flight path which is nice - but you don't hear anything in the rooms.

In the morning we had to take the Hopper bus and it was fine - we got this from T4. to get there you use the covered walkway - however if you talk to reception they will take you in a golf buggy to T4 and you can use the Heathrow Express...

I know you are after T5 for the price, but I would log onto Hilton directly to book as they have a HH sale on (if your a member, if not sign up!). Also, look at the parking options too at the hotel. in T4 its opposite the hotel and this was brilliant. Once you factor in the additional cost you would pay for parking vs. the hassle it may be worth it. Have you looked at that..?

I don't drive to airport as we always take the train, partly because of experience of almost falling asleep at the wheel jet lagged!

I gave looked at the Hilton T4 and have looked via booking sites like hotels.com, lastminute.com etc as well as directly with Hilton. The prices for T4 are on a par with the Sofitel which would be my hotel of choice if I could get it at the right price. I know the Sofitel can be had for below £100 sometimes, and certainly below £150 so I'm not prepared to pay current advertised rates. I'll bide my time, I have almost 3 months. There's no rush and I'm sure I'll find a rate that suits.

So true, for our next holiday were doing the train there and back - M25 knackered and post a few drinks at the Airport & on plane is not a great place to be..!

The Hilton T5 is great. I preferred it to the Sofitel (stayed at both in 1 month). sofitel wins on location. As gold upgraded to exec room- best Hilton exec club I have ever been in. The buffet was meals including sandwiches and nibbles plus fruit and veg. The drinks were varied and free flowing. The room itself was large and well laid out- nice bathroom. Chocolate in room- a big slab of strawberry and dark chocolate- really good. It was an exec room.

Downside is the location. 20 mins on hoppa bus and £5 from terminal 5. We drove back next day (OH came after with car) to do the DTCI at T3 and purple parking but next time I would book to park at the hilton and get a car from there
to do DTCI.

Enormous car park. It was £93 on a Friday night. I assume that you have seen the BA flyer talk thread about how to book the Sofitel through lastminute. I paid about £95 for Sofitel.

I've booked the Radisson T3 for now as it's a brand I do like, and something keeps holding me back from Hilton's. I'd prefer the Sofitel but there are no deals on my night, Thur 16 October, so I'll keep searching, I stayed previously on a deal for less than £100 on a Thursday night. My Radisson booking is refundable but I might end up staying with it and splashing out on DTCI.

And nobody mentioned it has an awesome indian restaurant, which on top of being a new modern hotel with a great exec lounge, you cant start a holiday in a better way than having a ruby before your next days flight.

I have stayed at the Radisson Blu Edwardian at LHR. The room was decent, the service in the bar appalling but the service in the restaurant was great. A busy place when we stayed. We parked there with no problems. There is little to do there other than drink or eat.

I prefer the Sofitel, always find it calm and tranquil and the rooms are fab. Of course the stroll into T5 is great if flying BA. But not cheap. We do not eat in there- we go to Carluccios in the terminal building or head into town if we have the time/ inclination.

And nobody mentioned it has an awesome indian restaurant, which on top of being a new modern hotel with a great exec lounge, you cant start a holiday in a better way than having a ruby before your next days flight.

Yes indeed, Cyrus Todiwala is the exec chef there I believe (of Cafe Spice Namaste fame, had a lot of good meals there...). I was at a function at the T5 Hilton a year ago and was expecting the usual chicken dinner type offering so was very pleasantly surprised with what we actually ate.

Can add my own 2 cents that it's a great hotel all round if you can cope with the minor inconvenience of it not being right at the terminal.
