Hello All

I know a lot of people on here fly UC - or PE but I am sure there are a few like myself who only upgrade occasionally...

Having been on Live Chat I was offered the opportunity to purchase Extra Legroom or indeed Seat Plus. The price was very competitive to be honest, and a lot cheaper than an upgrade - however it is not at all comparable.

My question is - has anyone ever used these features and do you believe they offer value for money, or are at all worth it?

Seat Plus gives you 3 inches more legroom. For me (6'5") that's not enough but many V-Flyers rate Seat Plus highly.

Personally I prefer exit rows as the legroom is normally unlimited but it's true the seats are narrower.

I thought Seat Plus bought the seat next to you? How does this translate to legroom? Never done it.

I've purchased extra legroom and it's almost a necessity when flying Y. Plus, I can usually snag one closer to the front of Y than I otherwise might be able to get.

Also, if I do end up upgrading, they will refund the extra legroom / exit row fee.

Sorry my mistake, I meant extra legroom gives you 3" more legroom.

Yes Seat Plus buys you an empty seat next to you. Pretty good value IMHO, the drawback is you can't choose your seats in advance as they'll be allocated at the airport.

Having said that I'm not sure what happens if you buy your ticket, reserve a seat at T-60 THEN buy Seat Plus. Will you be moved or will they let you stay where you'd chosen?

Thanks guys - appreciate the help...

The upgrade is somewhat out of my reach (until I win the Lottery tonight) so I might go for one of the above. Its more a case of what is better, and extra seat in the middle so we can sit across it (diagonally I guess) or the 3" for extra legroom...

I just don't think the maths adds up for Seat Plus or the additional room. Surely you've chosen economy to save money? Shelling out 120GBP per couple on 3inches or an exit row is just pretty crazy in my mind.

I take the viewpoint; sit in economy with the thought of the thousands I've saved vs. an upper class ticket and that's why I can't feel my legs and just refused a plastic container of yellow gloop for a meal OR sit in upper class enjoying champagne (if there's any left) and having a half decent meal but realising this did cost a pretty penny.

Yes and No - I have chosen Eco because I don't have an additional £1,200 to spend at this time - unless I chop into spending money and I would rather have that.

I see your point, but for £130 I can get an extra seat for both flights to use to relax over. Just wondering if people think its worth it..?

Hmm well said and I can't deny that I do agree. Although, for some where the lofty heights of UC are unobtainable the seat plus or extra leg room offerings do give the option of some more space so you can hopefully feel your legs at the end of the flight :P

As for if it's worth it..... in my view, no. However I am hardly objective in this given I know how much an upgrade to PE could cost and I have a fair bank of miles to bargain with at airport check-in desks. YMMV on this one y)

Well, I plumped for the seat plus for both sectors so will be an interesting TR..!

Speaking to the team at Crawley Towers, it appears that as I booked through VH the contract for the flights only goes to them when I check in. From there VS are the ones who can help more. So a bit of Twilight checkin may help - where I can discuss the miles I have in my account and apparently offset the £65 against an upgrade.

For some reason I think its going to be down to how busy the flight is and who is working the desk on the day etc to the price, or is it a standard price?

I have been told that - however they 'hold some seats back' for this. There is also a limitation where this can be due to the arm rests etc...

However, if they do cancel it I will ask about upgrades as I can offset the cost on this.

Strange, I cant now allocate my seat - so may be right at the back and that could be a ball ache for immigration at MCO...

That's correct - if you buy Seat Plus they'll be allocated at check in from whatever blocks of adjacent seats are still available.

I'm not sure what your route and load is, but it's possible that there is such light load that you end up with free seats anyway. It's happened to me when flying Y on multiple occasions on the VS1/2. Possibly not worth the risk, but can be a cheap alternative! Actually been able to sleep across the 4 middle once or twice as well.

VS027 - been told its 'almost sold out' but why would they say any different..!?

If you allocate right at T60 (or what ever it is now) and take 2 seats on a row of 3 and leave the middle one free - yes for people allocating you may get 'lucky'. But I guess now with the £50 charge a lot of people - again who are about to go on what is normally an expensive Orlando holiday may forgo this. If its a family of 4 that would be £400 to select on both legs. I would say that the VS allocation of seats is based on what works best for them, not on what is preferred by the customer - eg, get them all close together to the crew have an easier time.
