We're flying in economy from Orlando back to Gatwick in September and our seat map has just become available.

There were a couple of seats available on the upper deck, so we quickly selected those as we've never sat upstairs before. However, there's just two of us, and the third seat next to the aisle has been selected by someone else.

Does anyone have any reviews of economy seats upstairs? - Are they much better than being downstairs?

On our outbound flight we've got two seats on the main deck as that's all that was available, but we're unsure as to what would be best. Any opinions would be gratefully received!

Thanks.

Upstairs is certainly quieter than downstairs - useful for a night flight. And the bubble has a more intimate feel.

On the LGW 747s there are only 8 sets of 2 economy seats, in the back 4 rows downstairs. The rest are in 3s or 4s. While the pairs do afford more privacy for couples, being at the back means you may not get your first choice of meal and will get off last which puts you at the back of the queue at immigration.

There is also Seat Plus, where you can pay a small-ish fee for an extra seat next to you to remain vacant. However if the flight's busy this won't be available, and you can't choose where you sit.

They're your only two options if you want a guaranteed "2" in economy.

We flew in "the bubble" for the first time in May this year, although we were in premium Economy, it was a great experience, especially for a night flight, very quiet.

I noticed that the front row of Economy seats have loads of legroom as there is a large gap between these and the rear of the last row of PE seats infront. These would also be useful if you wanted to move around without disturbing the passenger next to you as you wouldn't need to squeeze past them....

I certainly prefer the bubble for night flights, we will be choosing it again hopefully in September.

The bubble is definitely good, but if the single person in the aisle falls asleep and you need to get out it can be awkward. It is definitely quieter up there and if you have a window seat you have extra space next to you for luggage stowage which is really useful.

There is a charge for these seats as they are classed as emergency exit seats.
