nasty having someone get violent on flight, but wouldn't it just have been the thin plastic inner pane rather than the main window?

At 40,000 feet would you be splitting hairs....

Another report says it was the inner pane on a Thomson flight from Sanford to Manchester on May 25th, the plane was travelling over Ireland at the time

Whilst the book should be thrown at this cretin, it is worth saying that his chances of breaking the glass pressure window are close to zero. He broke the internal plastic trim, and probably the photo chromatic inner, but he would have had no chance at the thick toughened outer glass. Not unless he had a hammer and a spike, anyway....

Good point with the photo chromatic inner. I doubt that'll be cheap to fix unlike replacing the traditional inner.
