Can anyone help. We have been looking to book flights to Orlando around the 19th June 2015, since they went on sale the outward leg is £680pp in economy.. VH is also astronomical too! Is the flight so full already? Will the prices come down any? We really need to travel on the 19th or 20th for two weeks but certainly dont want to pay almost £1000 return each.
Thanks

Perhaps they've sold the cheaper buckets on that day. Is it the start of the Scottish children's holidays? It's only another £40 to go PE.

The week before is £370. The 20th is £430.

Alternatively, fly down on LR and leave from LGW.

The school kids aren't on holiday until the next week..thats why we sneak off this week..normally much cheaper. Surely they won't have sold out the cheap seats already. The burning question is should I wait a while...Decisions decisions.

It's too early to do a load check on Flightstats but I'm guessing the flight's already pretty full, seeing as it's the weekend before the schools in Glasgow break up and a lot of parents will just take their kids out 3 days early.

Or at least that's what VS are banking on.

For the cheapest fares, avoid school holidays. Can't? Then the airlines have got you by the short and curlies.

There are two ways of looking at it: either people who have to travel in school holidays are penalised with higher fares, or people who DON'T have to travel in school holidays are rewarded with discount fares.

Have a look at Virgin Holidays.

For the same dates at the start of the Glasgow school holidays Virgin Atlantic £5500 and Virgin Holidays £4400 (that's for 5 of us) and that includes a car. It's actually cheaper to set it to the smallest nastiest car (Chevy Spark) and not bother picking it up! Also you'll only have to pay a deposit rather than entire fare.

Only downside is the fare bucket isn't upgradable with miles.

Alternatively for those dates you can get British Airways GLA-LGW-TPA for as low as £330 per person if you can be bothered with the Gatwick stop over.

I did notice this, too, when I was checking for flights next year. The difference wasn't huge but I was quite surprised. I thought that the difference may have been down to forex, but who knows.

You will still be able to get VS FC miles and TPs booking these flights with DL, as long as you're not claiming the same miles flown on another frequent flyer scheme. Actually now you would even get FC miles and TPs on DL metal, too.

Don't get me started on that one. Despite my best efforts at haggling with TAs (and they are pretty good if I say so myself), I end up spending astronomical amounts on holidays each year. The only upside is that I'll be so used to it by the time my cherubs no longer want to accompany us, that I'll be able to spend the same amount outside the hols and fly UC everywhere...

Just another 10 years to go...

RC just when your cherubs grow out of the UC subsidies, they bring their "friends/boyfriend/girlfriends" and it gets doubly expensive. :0

Well Marshy, provided it's outside school time (and Universities have elongated holidays), I'll still be saving money I reckon. Also, that will be the point when I will be up front and they will be down back. Nothing wrong with wanting to give them something to aspire to.... I'm already worrying that their first flight in CW next year will end up becoming their baseline expectation, but at 11 and 9, I think it would have been a bit soon to pack them off back them to economy!

Remember that Scottish and English school holidays differ!

Scotland end June - 1st week August
England mid July - end August

So there's bargains to be had if you travel down to Manchester/Gatwick or up to Glasgow.

Hi marshy
Your post got me depressed as we have just booked PE and I thought virgin had dropped the PE prices .:(
I think your spot on with the high demand for the flights from GLA to MCO
We are a party of 7 booking for the holiday of a life time in Orlando .
Just booked via delta for 5th to 19th
Paid 7200 ,1029 per seat it's a lot but still £ 1500 less than on VA's site.
(We don't have the option of flying from another airport or want to fly a multi stop)
We could have waited for the prices to come down (possibly) except dependant on version there are only 62 or 66
PE seats and I needed 7.
It's the most I have ever paid for seats

Still stuck between the devil and the deep blue see...now both VA and VH have bumped up the prices for the 20th June..I feel so ripped off...I really don't want to pay £2400 for 3 economy flights. It's not even worth driving to Manchester as those aren't much cheaper. The burning question is do I wait in hope of a sale or say thanks but no thanks to Virgin and book an indirect flight with United Airlines??

No one can give you that answer. Prices may go up further as demand increases.

All you can do is book when (if) you see a price that suits.

The 20th was considerably cheaper when I posted ^^ but now it has gone up.

You can never guarantee it but I'd expect there to be a sale later this month, around the bank holiday (in England!).

Trouble is you can't be certain your chosen route & dates will be included. If you wait you may get lucky - or you may find the prices have gone up again.

If all the seats in the cheapest bucket have already been sold, I'd say it's unlikely that flight will be included in any sale but you never know.

One tip, clear all your cookies or use a different computer/web browser. You never know. £800 return is cheaper than what I've just paid for the week after...

Sales are normally route and date dependant, I don't see Virgin running a sale during June when it's getting busy. I noticed there wasn't any difference with Manchester this year as well.

Your other options from Glasgow are Thomas Cook to MCO or Thomson to Sanford. The Thomson Dreamliner will be overpriced but the Thomas Cook cook offers a reasonable baggage allowance and some meals and drinks. 3-3-3 in economy in a A330 though. xx(

May is during school term time so will be considerably cheaper. Scottish school finish 26 June 2015 so prices start going up then (and the week before with families taking kids out of school)
