Is it usual and customary to be charged for the extra legroom seats in economy when you are a Flying Club Gold?

Yes, it is not a benefit of Au to get free extra legroom seats, so standard charges apply if you want to book them.

Gold cards should get them for free :-)

Some of the messages regarding the new, paid for, assigned seating in Economy suggested that AU card holders would get that benefit.
