Hi all

First I must apologise, I need to write and post my trip reports from our west coast trip in July. Work has been very busy.

Anyway back to my question - we are trying to go back to the west coast in July 2015. Due to the lack of funds at the minute, we are trying to organise a 2 week trip as cheap as possible. We have used (this year) most of our miles on G's to. LA. We are looking at flying manchester to Las Vegas but the cost looks like just over £1000 each with virgin economy, I have been looking at package holidays and have found some fantastic deals with flights (virgin flights - economy) and accommodation (planet hollywood) for just over £1000 each for 2 weeks. Would virgin holidays price match?

We don't need the accommodation for the full 2 weeks only the first 4 nights and the last 3 nights - going to San Diego in the middle and accommodation has already been sorted. I can't remember the last time we did a package, but it seems to good to miss at the minute with only having to pay a deposit.

Sorry if the question is long winded, any advice is appreciated.

VH won't price match a DIY booking made up of separate flights, hotels, car etc - they will only match another identical package.

If you have found this so cheap then why not book it direct? If immediate funds are an issue have you thought about a 0% credit card as an option?

One piece of advise regarding hotels and especially Vegas hotels, don't commit yourself to a fully prepay in advance rate now. Most will only require a deposit for the first night, and keep checking back, there are always deals on Vegas hotels and the prices will almost certainly come down from now. Also, if you are wanting to save funds, look to do Vegas Sunday-Thursday nights, the prices are much cheaper.

Hi Shaz72,

We've just booked a holiday via Virgin hols, first time we've done a package in years!

We booked over the weekend thanks to their 10% off sale but thought we'd pop into the Virgin hols shop to see if they could beat the online price.....the in store price was £10 more because "you basically pay £10 to book in store and we cant do anything about that" the nice lady says...."ok I'll book online then", her reply "well you can but if anything goes wrong we can't help you, you'll have to ring our customer services dept and wait for them to reply"

Needless to say we booked on line and probably wont bother going into a travel agents again...on the plus side though - we've already got our PNR, I've matched up my FF numbers and have only had to pay a deposit.

I'd be happy to pay £10 to have a real person to talk me through it, especially if it was something new to me.

Having said that when I did my first upgrade on line a few years ago I had a lot of phone help from customer services, but I suspect that was the exception. My helper checked for upgrades three times a week and called me when they became available.
