Help using reward upgrade and companion flight

Hi everyone
I am in need of assistance re the subject. If I buy an M class economy ticket and upgrade to PE using the reward, would I then be able to get a companion PE ticket?

We are looking to go away in October 2015. Would be nice to use these "rewards"if possible.

Welcome to v- flyer.
Unfortunately not - the companion ticket can only be against a full revenue fare ( not an upgraded with miles fare) and these are the ones in the more expensive fare classes ( I think a minimum of L in economy, S in PE and J in UC). I've only ever used the companion on an S fare where it can work out as cost effective if you're paying for your own fare.

I see. Thanks very much DL. Can you tell which bucket the ticket is in online or would I have to call FC?

Given the total debacle that VS have with their IT system currently ( ie not being able to book upgradeable fares on-line anymore) ,you'd need to phone FC .
