Hi

I am just under 37 days till my next trip to Las Vegas. Wanted to ask about any tips for keeping mobile charges down.

I have an I Phone on 02 as well as a cheap Burn phone. Never mattered before but circumstances have changed meaning I am likely to be using the phone to call the UK a lot more. Recommendations to keep costs down.

Can also bring an I Pad or Laptop as well, if that is better, although not sure if a laptop will fit in the hotel safes? Assuming hotels will have Wifi (Bellagio and Palazio).

thanks

We visited Las Vegas and the Bellagio in April. I have a Three mobile which includes calls to the UK as part of the normal monthly allowance, together with data.

The safe in our room was big enough for my small laptop and wifi was good!

The WiFi was super quick in my suite at the Palazzo earlier this year (almost 100mbps down and ~ 90mbps up) :D

There's an ink-jet printer/multi-function device in the suites there too.

WiFi use is included in the daily 'resort fee' I think most Vegas hotels are the same for that.

Indoor mobile phone coverage was patchy though in my strip facing suite (was on a T-Mobile US Edge connection most of the time so OK for calls and texts but slow for data)

There was a small safe in the wardrobe in my suite there as well. Big enough for my iPad/MacBook Air.

I loved the Palazzo and would not hesitate to stay there again :)

You could put Viber on your phone and make calls to the UK via Wi-Fi so no problems with high provider charges. It does work - my US-based son and I (UK) have used it occasionally to talk when one or other of us didn't have a landline available.

If you're on O2, then download the TU go app, as long as you are connected to wi-to, then any calls/texts come out of your allowance.

Totally agree with Neil, have used the O2 Tu app each time we stay in Fl. Make most of my calls back to UK using my iPad with the Tu app. I have unlimited call time, so I can phone any UK landline or UK mobile using the Tu app. Make sure that you have a decent wifi connection before you use this Tu app. If you do not have wifi DO NOT USE,! Will be expensive at circa £1.50 per minute.

I grew up walking a mile to the phone box to make a call so for once a year while on holiday enjoy having no phone.
We use Skype and emails to keep in touch so my mobile phone goes off when I get on the plane outbound and comes back on when we get off it on the in bound.

P.S. remember to Photoshop out the apartment phone before showing pictures to anyone you have told it doesn't have one.

Thanks for the replies, sounds like the Tu App is the thing to use as when I will be making calls I should be connected to the hotels wifi. Will switch it off at other times! It is nice to be away from the phone though, I stayed in a Yurt once for a few days just by the Pacific Highway (Treebones), No Signal at any time during the stay! You would not think you were in California!!!!!

I'd note the 3 like home deal in the us at least extends to 15 pound top ups bundles and the sims are a quid... Purchased a couple as leaving uk - activate bundle at Lhr and fly.... Great for free calls home and unlimited data in Vegas with no contract.... Really useful if going as a group to stay in contact with each other across the city as wifi is not free in all casinos!
