Morning all,

Well It's T60 for our flight to JNB and time to select our UC seats, does anyone know which doors VS use to disembark? L1+L2 or just L2? We have a 2 hour connection there so would like to get off as quickly as possible.

Many thanks

It really depends on the gate. Most just L2, if you are lucky and use anA380 gate both doors should be used.

However I have a 20% record of using a remote stand and being bussed back to the terminal. Then they use Both doors again, but normally L1 first.

Thanks Paul,

We're flying on a Virgin A346, sounds like I should split the difference and go for 9+10A then.

Dominic:

LHR-JNB-LHR is my route 2 or 3 times a year and has been for the last 11 years :D

Every time at JNB disembarking is always, always via L2.

On the 346, I've gone for 10k every time and been either 3rd or 4th off the plane. The "A" seats are always a bit behind the "K"'s disembarking.

Usually, VS601 arrives around the same time as Lufthansa's A380 so, get your power walking boots on!.

However, the S.A. border staff are pretty good if you tell them that you have a tight connection and can help get you through by opening up another lane

Another tip...if you are connecting to South African Airways flight, check in online, then, as you leave the customs hall at JNB, on the left is the S.A.A. Bag Drop ...it saves you hauling your bags to the domestic departures terminal...only a 5-8 minute walk but it will help your connection time.

2 hours connection can be tight but certainly do-able.

Hope this helps.

Hi Paul,

I'll move a bit closer to L2, Mrs Hull is used to the quick march through to immigration wherever we go to.

We are booked through to HDS with SAA on our VS tickets, I'm guessing you have to collect and re check your bags.

Many thanks

No, if you're in one ticket I can't imagine why you would have to recheck bags... Unless SA has that same peculiarity as the US?

I can confirm that even though bags are checked through, they have to be collected, taken through customers and rechecked at the SAA bag drop.
There's no way round it
