Not seen this question asked before...

Ok, so me, missus and my mum are off PE to Vegas at beginning of December. Nice price at 900 quid each, but flown Upper since my last PE flight in 2009 I think, so UC is missed.

I'm checking the G's and one appears. One way.

Well, I guess 1.2K for the upgraded ticket plus 75 for the fees I expect, I guess its ok one way... But then the question comes up:

Can I book it in my name, and switch the seats on the day? I'd like my Mum to see UC, but I'd like the miles (I'll be upgrading using mines) and there's more of a chance of her being ill before the date too, than for me. I understand its up to whoever on the plane to allow this, but effectively it will be in my name until we get on the plane. Then we switch...

I've no interest in using the UC bar, so if mum wants to visit, she'll be coming back to PE to see us, so the switch shouldn't have impact on us going in there during the flight...

Yes, you can buy the UC ticket in your name and let you mum actually sit in the seat. It is polite to let the gate agent know and also a member of the CC, but in all honesty they really don't care too much.

It isn't however good etiquette to switch and share seats during the flight.

Oh god no, I'm not a monster...

And chances of buying a third into the lounge, when one person has UC, one is a guest and the last one will be sitting on their lonesome?

I've done it a number of times with kids, I'm happy to be corrected but I expect you'll be fine.

Technically not allowed but there's a decent chance if you ask nicely, as long as it's not rammed in there.

It's £45 I think at LGW (but ISTBC).
