Due to policy changes at work, all flights recently have been with BA. However we needed a break and with the VS mileage sale we decided to spin the dice and see what's available :-)

Called the flying club, after an infuriating 20 minute wait, things changed dramatically. The lady on the end of the phone was brilliant and found us a cracking deal, reviewed all options, reward, companion and combi fares and came up with a great deal, where were paying a good price (£600 and 26,500 miles) for a return to NYC.

Just wondered what's changed in the last 2 years since my last VS flight. First time from LHR too, any advice/tips.....

Thanks.

Ah. Now, there's a question. What routes / aircraft were you using?

What class are you flying?

Wish we'd got PE for £600 ! lol, just standard economy. Used to fly the "holiday route" mainly LGW-MCO (although it was business and not pleasure :-( we have holidayed using PE (trip report available)but first time with VS out of LHR

So....to your original question.

- depending on your specific flights then and now, possibly a different aircraft? NYC flights are often served by Airbus rather than 747. Depending on when you actually flew from LGW and whether on a refurbished 747, possibly an upgraded IFE (VERA On Demand or VERA Touch)

- service on board. That's a bit up and down. Some reports good, some less so...

- LHR? Bigger, noisier, more useless retail opportunities. Depending on where you live and the time of your flights, possibly book a hotel the night before rather than throw yourselves on the mercy of the M25.

According to the what aircraft tool, looks to be a 4 class 747 - VS09 and VS10 return all show 747 4 class config. We flew on both refurb and non refurb to CUN and most times to MCO we had a refurb, to be fair it was ok in Economy - I guess it will be a similar plane as before with no noticable changes (excpet being a bit older, 1 flight to MCO we were frist passengers for the refurb so everything was still very shiny !)

I dont mind LHR if im honest, but being BA recently, been spoiled with T5 - long time since I went to T3, but if I recall its not great :-(

So it'll be one of the LHR 747, which are now the poor relatives of their shiny refurbished LGW brethren. At least it's not the remaining VERA Reel equipped 343...

The "4" refers to the general configuration of the 747, not the number of classes, btw.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you meant you hadn't flown from LHR, rather than not flown VS from LHR.
