Thinking of going to Vegas with my best mate at some point for a dual birthday event and was wondering if there is a better time to go in the year or is it not really a thing to worry about ?

Been several times of year. For a wedding, honeymoon, and lads weekend in 3 seperate times of year.

Personally I'd be avoiding Jun-Aug - it's ridiculously hot, even for Vegas. I'd also avoid December and Jan as although warm-ish, it's not hot enough for my taste.

April was very nice - on the hotter side, but not hot.
November when I've been has been mild - not too hot or too cold, except in the evenings, when it did get very cold.

Oct is also nice, but hotter in evenings.

It all depends on what you want to get out of it.

If you enjoy lazing around the Pool you will find a lot of hotels close their pools over the winter.

Look at any shows or concerts you or your friend may like to see and line your trip up with that (a couple of years ago Mrs Hull and I came off the plane and went to a Guns N' Roses concert and met the band that night) there's always something going on.
If you're not a Boxing fan avoid Hotels like MGM and Mandalay Bay if there's a Fight on as they book out very quickly as will any other fight venue.
Also check to see if there are any big conferences on as that will affect the price and availability of your chosen resort.

My favourite time of year to visit is March or April as it's nice and warm you can get away with shorts and t shirts for your trip, we were there in November 2012 the days were nice but the evenings were a lot cooler, so much that when we went up to Freemont Street we wore Jackets, Gloves and Hats.
I have also spent a night there in August, that was way too hot for me.

There is a group of four of us heading over for the New Year this year and we'll also be meeting up with at least one other V-Flyer.

Have fun there and be lucky.

Dominic.

As Dominic says spring & autumn are probably best.

But try to avoid US public holidays and major events like Spring Break, "March Madness" basketball, big fights and major conventions as they attract hundreds of thousands of people and push hotel prices up massively, not to mention make the Strip feel very crowded.

Note also that weekends are generally much busier than weekdays - hotel rates can easily double on Fridays and Saturdays.
