We have booked a flight to MIA and plan to stay there overnight. The next day we are going to Treasure Island. Should we drive or take an internal flight - cant make my mind up! Have costed up and including luggage would be about £150 for two. Did an internal flt to MCO on a "boneshaker" and wouldnt like to do that again. Does anyone know what type of aircraft AA use for flights to TPA? ?|

We have driven from MIA & MCO to Sarasota & Bradenton areas in the past.

Personally really enjoyed the road trips as we made it part of the holiday, but each to their own.

Am sure you'll enjoy whatever you do :)

Miami to Tampa is about 280 miles / somewhere in the region of 4 and a bit hours (assuming I-75 is clear). The flight would be under an hour. If you're having a hire car in Florida anyway (likely) then the drive to Tampa could be done on a tank of fuel, so a lot cheaper than flying.

I know people who have done a road trip from Miami to Orlando and loved it - they even tagged extra days onto their 2 week holiday specifically for the road trip. Personally, last time I needed to get from Miami to Orlando, I took the flight.

I guess it all depends on how many "spare" days you have in your Florida plans, as the drive to Tampa will effectively block out a day.

Whatever you decide - enjoy the Sunshine State!

If you have time drive, and call at Naples for lunch. It's quite a pleasant journey and when you consider check in waiting to board collecting bags etc plus it's 45 mins from TPA to treasure island there's not that much in it.

Thanks for all your replies. We actually have a two week beach holiday booked. It was just for the convenience I was thinking about flying. I know we are going to be awake very early and we cant actually book into our accommodation till 3pm so think I will go for option of driving there and stop off at Naples for lunch. Many thanks for helping me make the decision.
