Hi all, first post here!!

I'm thinking about getting hold of a couple of standby tickets for New York through my airlines staff travel. I've never flown standby with anyone other than my own airline so have a few questions that I'm hoping that some of you could answer...

Is it possible that if the virgin flights are full I could ask at the BA desk if they would accept me (I'm guessing the answer to that one will be a big fat NO haha)

Is it possible to use standby tickets on the Delta codeshare flights? ie. the ones operated on Delta aircraft.

If economy is full would they consider upgrading fare paying passengers to make room for us in economy??

I'm sure I'll end up thinking of other questions but any help would be greatly appreciated. y)

As it's about staff travel benefits we'll have to wait for another staffer to reply I think...

The general etiquette for those on staff travel of any sort is to contact the staff member who has arranged it if they have any questions.

This is what DL have to say and I'd imagine VS have something similar as part of their staff travel programme.

I am the staff member, just not a Virgin staff member. I work for another airline who has an agreement with Virgin for standby travel. No probs if nobody has the answers. Thanks for the replies though guys! :)

However, I had no idea you could even buy a standby flight.

Staff travel is generally on standby

BA won't accept a virgin ticket but you could just get a BA ticket as well as a back up and then the one you don't use you can refund. If economy is full but there is a seat in premium or upper then you would get that seat. I'm not sure about delta it would depend what agreement your particular airline has.
