Just wondered. Seen that you can get ex-DUB to Boston (Upper) on a Aer Lingus/VS Upper combo for 1200 quid (just past new year).

Also SFO from DUB, a BA/VS Upper for 1480, same days.

1540 from Brussels, for those who might find a 70 quid return on the Eurostar a nice little combo...

(Inspired by the FT BA lot, but I'd rather fly VS).

I have managed to score the following flights through Expedia

AMS-JNB via LHR with BA in CW 07-15 November £1456

DUB-LAS via JFK with DL in BE 27 Dec - 03 Jan £1335

There are some really great deals to be had at the moment.

OK - So here is a question.
Normally all my travel is booked for me, so I am a little travel virgin when it goes to booking these type of tricks.
I have followed instructions given by others on here but I never every get any results on any sites :(
I am trying to get costs of PE from one of the European cities then on a VS aircraft to Vegas 24th May next year.
As my company is not willing to let me book a trip just on the off chance I have work there (cheek!!!) I need to fund myself!!
Any help???

I'm getting a price of £817 ex-DUB against £1275 ex-LGW. Not a bad saving.

On Expedia, enter your destination and dates as normal (bearing in mind that for a morning TATL flight like the VS43 you'll need to do the Europe-London leg the night before).

Then select VS under "preferred airline" and PE under "class" and it should work.

One thing so say about the PE booking there, is that a direct LGW to LAS flight can cost close to that amount. I got mines around the christmas time sale last year at around 900 quid return. So while other ex-eu have not been in the same range (to SFO ever been below 2K upper?), PE might be similar to a sale fare if you wait, given the costs of positioning to Dublin.

I'm based near Cardiff & can easily get a one way Aer Lingus flight to DUB although I'd have to fly in the night before I would fly DUB-LHR-BOS due to arrival / departure times. Please can someone explain how this would work with baggage, etc & how would it work on the way home i.e. could I take BOS-LHR & then just get the train back to Wales without having to go to DUB, oh & what about checked bags on the way home?

You need to be careful with that kind of itinerary. You should ask at BOS not to check your baggage through to DUB. Otherwise look for a connection to DUB from LGW.

That way your luggage will not be through checked.

You have to do the first leg - ie DUB-LHR - otherwise the whole booking will be void. On the outbound, the BA/EI check in staff at DUB should be able to check you and your baggage straight through to BOS.

When you arrive at LHR from DUB, follow the Flight Connections signs and catch the bus to T3. Reclear security and stop off at the VS transfer desk to check in for the BOS flight (even though you'll probably already have your boarding pass issued at DUB).

On the way back, you don't need to do the final LHR-DUB leg so when you check in at BOS ask them to check your baggage to LHR only. No-one's ever reported VS refusing to do this although there are reports that BA check-in staff have been instructed to refuse.

Thanks - For the £500 difference I will have a look. That could be an extra hour at the tables :0 :0

Afternoon all,

Iv'e just been going through my upcoming ex Eu bookings and it seems that with all the extra LHR-DUB/AMS flights and the LHR-JNB ones it looks like I'll go from 0 to BA Silver when I finish my last leg in April.
It also looks like I'll be a couple of VS TP's shy of renewing my AU this year unless I take a couple of day trips to MAN or EDI.

How likely to stick-around are these current ex-EU deals? So long as you're always looking at least a few months out for travel, are they always this good, or is this a particular promotion?

It's not a promotion, no - it's the British airlines trying to compete with the likes of Aer Lingus, KLM and Lufthansa. By offering cheap fares via London they hope to attract passengers from continental Europe who'd otherwise fly direct.

Will they last forever? Who knows. The airlines are certainly wise to it and anecdotal evidence suggests BA are taking action to try and stop it - eg by insisting that luggage is checked all the way through on the return leg, cancelling Avios accounts and threatening to charge travel agents the full fare if their customers skip the last leg.

So the fares will probably remain - it's just a question of what fiendish devices the airlines will come up with to try and stop UK travellers exploiting them.

Well it seems you two have hit the nail on the head regarding my work-life balance, work is easy for me to get around, Mrs Hull on the other hand is not v( apparently I have plenty of things to do around the house before I jet off for ten weeks in January.
