Well to be fair all they said regards EC and PE was that the cabins would see a 'refresh'. Looking at the pictures it seems like the seats are very slightly different, 'more comfortable' as they claim.

As far as what they said and what I can see from pictures I wouldn't say it was underwhelming at all. They never said that it would be a completely new seat product. And with UC they essentially say that the new seat is a mix of the two previous UC seats.

I've been wondering the same Darren, how much more innovative can a seat be? And when they've tried to be innovative, especially in UC with the UCDS, most people hated it, so it looks to me like they've gone back to what they know works.

I read a lot on this forum about the "good old days". I'm fairly new to VS, taking my first flight with them last year in UC, and I've been lucky to only travel in UC with them so far. Yes the seats on the current fleet are a bit old and battered in places, but I was blown away the first time and haven't been disappointed yet, by the seat or the service.

I still think PE seats should have proper leg rests instead of those pointless metal drop down foot bar things.

Oh I prefer those foot bars! The full size leg supports makes my legs feel quite claustrophobic. But then again I'm a tall freak. Each to their own.

Sounds like it's evolution rather then revolution.

I think it's 2 fold.
1) VS' own hype of "flying in the fsce of the ordinary" gives off an impression of something different to the rest.
2) the competition are innovating. Look at the ME3, even AA have a good J seat now.

I'm led to believe there'll be a number of new "service innovations" in UC - or, as some will invariably dismiss them, cheap gimmicks.

But the aim will presumably be to strengthen VS's position as "Delta's sexy little British sister", offering something different to the blander, more corporate BA and other rivals without having to waste millions on developing an all-singing all-dancing new seat that really isn't needed.

I was thinking that ... and if you look at photos of the exterior there does indeed appear to be a window missing (under the 'g' of Virgin on the left side).

That row will be one to avoid then! (I think it might be row 8)

Isn't it where there is a gap under the A and N ?

Ugh, I have to say I'm disappointed from the images and having read the review. I was assured the new UC seats would come with much more that what is visible. It really does look like exactly like the 1st generation only in better shape.

I'll submit my own review after the Boston flight next week. Really hoping there is more to it that this.

Its quite clear by the pictures that VS and clearly DL see a huge opportunity in PE, thats the area thats had the biggest focus from what we've seen (wonder wall, new seat etc). New UC does look nice though. I wonder whether there are new amenity packs? I remember seeing something saying there would be.

From the recent businesstraveller article reviewing the new 787 flight, it stated it will start the LHR-BOS route on October 26th.

I thought it would be on October 28th? Does anyone know the real inaugural commercial flight?

100% 28th

I was speaking to CC on my return from BOS this morning and am informed that the cabins have more space, the UC cabin is roomier and they're quite excited by the plane generally. Also Birhday Girl will do 2 flights to BOS and back in the next few days and will then go back to training until the end of November before doing more trips with PAX. Apparently, because Boeing were late delivering, there hasn't been time to complete all the training and test flights needed for it to go fully operational straight away.

I agree too - not sure what else they can do to improve the UC seat unless they completely changed the cabin. Then they risk upsetting lots of passengers who fly Virgin because of the style of seat. Glad they learnt from the UCDS.

The problem they have is that lots of carriers are catching up in business. It will be interesting to see the new BA CW seat when it is finally introduced.

In terms of innovation it seems to be First Class where this is really happening.

Hi all first time poster, I feel vs have done the right thing here. We all dislike the UCDS so they have gone back to the old suite which is right in my opinion as it gets the job done. The seat is comfortable, the bed is long and overall it's very spacious.

So now we get the old UC suite, perhaps a little more sophisticated, plus the new IFE, that's what I always wanted, so y) from me.

The seat map for my VS012 next Sunday has now changed to a 330 from the 787, presumably Birthday Girl is on training flights that day.
