Booked direct with Virgin Atlantic on a return PE ticket.

On manage my booking there is the option to upgrade the outbound leg to Upper Class. The price a week ago was £960 per person and I today noticed it is now on offer for £420 per person.

Anybody has any experience on whether this price will go down any further? The class of travel is 'K' if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

How long is a piece of string?

Seriously, it is a near impossible question to answer with any great authority or real knowledge unfortunately.

For me, that is actually a fairly good price for an upgrade through the MMB. The prices are usually much closer to the £1000 mark.

Of course the decision on if it's good value or worth waiting to see if it comes down more, is really only something you can decide.

Thanks for the very quick reply.

I guess that a lot will also depend on availability in the UC cabin? I noticed on the return flight that there is no option to upgrade so I am guessing (again!) that UC will be near to full, if not full already?

Personally I'd grab it PDQ ):

Even if there is no availability showing for the inbound, the Upgrade Fairy may wave her wand. Earlier in the year I secured an inbound G from an 'M' at the end of half term from MCO to LGW :0 y)

Good luck

Sounds like a good price to me. We upgraded from economy to UC outbound/PE back for about £600 when we booked our holiday through VH. I thought it was a great price.

If we do get any opportunity to upgrade PE to UC on the way back I will do it, but I very much doubt there will be any availability. Looks like PE is already full, and since I never get an upgrade at the gate (being a lowly FC Red member!) I doubt it will happen to us!

Spotted some rewards seats in Upper and booked them.

Had to upgrade from the "K" class to the upgrade fare.

Total damage: £563.40 plus 25,000 miles for 2 people.

Not bad considering the PE return ticket was purchased during one of the sales :P

Now just eying reward seats on the way back. No money to be exchanged because the fare class for the return is already "S" which I understand is already an upgradable fare.

You'll have to pay some additional taxes & fees but they won't be a lot - probably around £50-70.

But yes, S is upgradable. If all else fails ask at check in as if there are still unsold UC seats then they may well sell you a miles upgrade there.

Not too sure if the latest post from gumshoe was posted in error in this topic ;)

Just looked at the seat map for the outbound flight and other than another seat ( 9A ) everything else is open for selection. Quite surprised by that given we're flying in under a month time.

My question is which seats are best? We're currently assigned 6A and 7A.

Many thanks.

My personal preference are 6A and 6K. No passing traffic and it's like you have your own personal space between the seats.
I do know a lot of people prefer adjoining seats so 6 and 7 would be my choice there.
