Farewell, LightBody...

I think you maybe need to take a deep breath and get some perspective.

No-one else seems in the remotist bit offended by anything in that post, so is it possible, do you think, that you are over-reacting?

The whole structure of status as well is something that is fascinating to me. Just how many of us strive to maintain our airline status, even to the extent of taking an extra, semi-invented flight to maintain status? Status in turn brings flying bonuses in mileage as well as other perks - if I were an airline CEO, I'd certainly be very cautious about doing anything too radical too quickly...

When I first joined v-flyer there was a very active 'TP Run' thread where people calculated the best combination of flights to get the most TPs in the shortest space of time and even now there is the odd 'how do I get X number of TPs' posts.

And that's where I learned about the 'Gold Run' which people did in order to gain / retain their AU status. And yes I though they were all as mad as a bag of spanners.

On the Flyer Talk BA board there is also a very active TP run thread and not so long ago there was a TP run where the person managed to go straight from Blue to Gold by doing a round the world flights in a complex routing in 48 hours or something. BA were so impressed - they were following his live trip report - with this that they met him when he arrived back with his newly minted Gold Card.

In fairness, the original V-flyer Gold Run was a remarkably cheap way to achieve Gold - provided you happened to be in Singapore, and had a spare day to spend admiring the forests of southern peninsula Malaysia from x-thousand feet.., munching satay and sipping claret..
(Gold from a 'standing start' would be about £480; re-qualification (as it was still 30 TPs back then) for £360..!

Oh my!!! As the OP I was never looking to lose any members of the forum over this. I just thought it would provoke a good conversation, which it has, I think, less perhaps a troll....

And Slinky - How could you use such profanity ;)
NYLON - That last post was funny, very funny :D :D

wow. I also had to go back and proof read the post to find the "word" lol wow

I find this interesting too, I also collect my miles on AMEX, which means I can transfer them to either VS or BA. So I do wonder how either companies benefit from those types of miles?

PLUS - loved the gold run done by the guy on BA!! and also cool that BA met him on his return to give him his gold card!! thats something more akin to VS.

I had to go back to Slinky's post to look for the swear word, too, and I don't recall reading anything vaguely offensive.

Lightbodyae - as others have said this is a completely independent forum from VS so perhaps you might be overreacting? I'm also of the "delicate gender" (though am almost impossible to offend), and have heard/read far worse things, including the BA CC saying "oh FFS". Does that mean you will stop flying with them, too?

Slinky described the reaction perfectly and couldn't have put it in any better English. It's an acceptable word to describe a human reaction. Perhaps the Internet is not the place to be if you are this easily offended.

So, after Tonty's reply, I've done a little reading on the whole TP run thing - I had no idea!

Mind you, there's plenty of tips there that might make getting those last few more afffordable...

Back on topic, I kind of get the airline selling points business model, but my head is hurting when I come to try and work out how the generic point systems work when they can be converted to multiple airline programmes...

Really interesting, thanks for starting the subject LG...

Vegascrazy wrote:What on earth is Lightbodyae on about!? I keep re-reading Slinky's post and don't see a swear word!?

It's a reference to a natural bodily function often coyly referred to as "Number Ones" or "Spending a penny".

I do feel that there is no need to insert words like that in any post.

I agree that it may make one feel like it however there are other words in the dictionary that would be better than a swear word.

Lightbodyae

Sorry, but no, I won't.

I can think of much more offensive epithets than the one slinky used and I, who am of the "delicate" gender and am advanced in years and thus shocked by the lowering of standards in language, do not consider it a swear word. Therefore I am not going to edit it and I think the other mods would agree with me. Sorry.

As the moderators are unable/unwilling to remove offensive language from forums posts, therefore they will need to remove my membership from v-flyer, as I do not have any intention to be associated with a forum that allows offensive/swearing language in their posts and that the moderators refuse to remove the offending word or words.

This will be my last post here.

Lightbodyae.

P.S. Virgin Atlantic has lost a customer, I will take my business elsewhere.

Wow, just wow. :D

You do realise that this forum is totally independent of VS?!

I am really surprised if someone can take offence of a word that has many different context like its Pis........ Down with rain or am going doe a Pis...... .

Saying that to leave a forum that has an abundance of knowledge of travelling is so extreme. Am I wrong or am I taking the P...... :D

After reading thru this thread again, and really, thanks to everyone that has replied. Some of you really do know far too much not to be in the airline business. y)
I should make it clear that status was not really the point here. Unless you have a US Credit Card, or get a freebie, as far as I know you have to be in the air to earn TP's.
Sitting on the fence, looking at both sides, that seems to be pretty fair.
The whole conversation started with the lack of ability to get a reward seat and the way VS airmiles are handed out.
It Does now open a whole other can of worms or a thought :0 :0
Do the air miles really give the loyal flyer and business VS want to keep coming back? Or are the TP's enough on their own when people can get airmiles in so many other ways and in greater quantities than if they purchase a ticket on an aircraft????
