I have a late-booked flight on VS44 next week, and am currently not being allowed to reserve a seat.

I presume this is due to the (60%) pre-allocation having been reached, and that I will be allowed to choose a seat at check in?? Seems surprising to me, as they are still selling PE reward seats on this flight, so cant be that busy...

From people's experience, is it specific rows of seats that get blocked and then released at OCLI? My main concern is that I am habitually a window-seat person, and the thought of a dreaded middle-of-four seat being the only one available is keeping me awake at night :0

Any recent experience of this? Be assured, I will be online at T-23.59.59 :D

And at least there isnt the upper vs lower deck issue to worry about these days... :D :D :D

Given it is Vegas, I think VH have probably got a good chunk of the seats "pre-allocated". These often seem to be released a few days before, so I suggest you keep checking regularly.

Why isn't there an Upper/Lower Deck Issue?
Recently did this flight and on way out friends were originally seated downstairs in one row as the Upper Deck was blocked out at T60, not the best seats but were able to move to the Upper Deck once OLCI was open. On way back Upper Deck seats were reserved well in advance.

Thanks - will keep checking. Bloody priority for CH is a nonsense :$

Guess what I meant was that in the good old days, the UD was a haven of PE tranqulity, and the lowed deck was to be avoided at all costs.
Now with the new layouts, there is no great preference, as long as I get a window 8D

Do we get a chance at the bulkhead seats at OLCI? Or is that a Twilight Checkin/On the Day Checkin option?

I'm more interested in those nowadays. Though might not mind the Upper Deck on way back when priority is less important to me...

I have the similar problem for my MCO-LGW trip on 05/12/14. Have been checking daily, sometimes twice a day, since t60 and none available. I spoke to flying club yesterday for an unrelated matter but got the same message when I asked that it was T60. Although I pointed out T60 is within at the moment so is it that all pre-allocation had been taken or is it just not released, they couldn't tell me. We will wait and see.

All of this may have changed nowadays but back in the day of pre T-60 assignment and PE only upstairs once I was only able to get seats right at the back of the bubble when I had wanted those just ahead of the exit doors; everything else was greyed out. At OLCI I found we had been catapulted forward to the seats I had wanted into the first instance...

Have you ever been able to see the seat map? It seems unlikely that every available seat was snapped up the moment seat requests opened, so if you've never been able to see the seat map since T-60 there may be an issue. Do you have young kids/special assistance passengers or anything?

There really isn't any connection between them still selling seats - for mile or cash - and the seat map and what you can see (or not see)on it.

It has been known for airlines to continue to sell seats on a flight that they already know to be over sold.

Hey gumshoe nope no kids or special assistance etc it's very strange but have been in there religiously twice a day at the moment as want to bag some upstairs seats so think it is just going to be a waiting game for me.
