VS & DL seat maps

I think the Delta seat maps (for VS metal) are more accurate than those from VS. Except that DL appears to have the wrong seat numbers written down.

The DL maps seem to show much more accurately the relative location and space available of the seats than the VS maps, especially in UC.

Take a look at the front of the lower deck of the LHR 747-400.

Agreed - the DL seatmaps for VS metal are much more accurate. If the ottomans on 6A/K don't actually touch each other, you're certainly not going to get more than the Retail Therapy magazine into the gap between them!

I didn't realise they were that close! We have 12A&K booked on a flight next year but I thought there was a little more space. Mmm... not that I don't want to be close to my partner but that is close

Oh yes John ,don't be fooled by the VS seat map ,the delta one is more accurate although the A Zone is still a great place to sit

Yes, I've just googled some pics and see what you mean. Very snug and very nice. I see there are no bins directly overhead those 2 seats, otherwise, what's the storage like for those seats, any difference to the others? Mind, I only take a carry on and no "extra bits".

If there's not enough space the crew will gladly stow your carry ons in the closet. However, as zone A is only 1-1, I've never had a problem storing my stuff, even when at the front.

Yes if everyone plays nicely there's plenty of room.

Some people do get very territorial over "their" overhead bins but the CC will ensure your carry-ons are accommodated if necessary.

I suppose it's no different to being in the centre suites on the A340s and using the bins on the wall, they're big enough to accommodate everyone. I'm really looking forward to this flight, first time on a 747, in the pointy end. I've got Blacky to blame for this, he kept telling me to try a 747 and I do as I'm told 'coz I'm a good boy I am

Assuming the layout at the front is the same for the Gatwick configuration there is about 2mm between the foot stools in the front row. I like it for a couple but would probably go further back if I was on my own.
Regarding stowage there is some room between the seat and window but you are not allowed to put anything there on take off or landing. I will keep my jacket on until the seatbelt light goes out and then stow it next to the seat.

As we travel light in terms of hand luggage the space under the ottoman suffices for the man bag, and the crew more often that not take and store jackets. Once the seat belt light goes off so the shoes which then take the place of the man bag.

They are great for a couple, and the opposite of great if the person across the 2mm gap is a stranger.

Got to be done Bretty , 747s still the best plane ever made ,going to miss them when they are gone .

Possibly, but I've never found the foot the most engaging part of the human form. The one and only time I was in 12K with a stranger in 12A was a long flight back from SFO where said stranger spent the entire flight reading a tome on the evils of alcohol whilst (I imagined) occasionally peering over the top to assess the evidence in 12K.

We usually sit a few seats further back, simply because I've felt that the wall at the front of the cabin must make 12A/K feel claustrophic.

Not so we've noticed, possibly because you aren't hard up against the wall and there's a useful bit of in flight storage space up there. As there's no passing traffic it feels private.

I ended up in 12K when asked in the CH if I would change my original seat selection to allow a family to sit together. The first option was 20A next to the toilet and with an infant in the seat opposite. What about 12K? "Hmm," thinks I to myself, "Let's give it a try and see what it's like" I did and it was OK. It wasn't as half as in your face as I expected it to be. The person opposite, after a fleeting glance at me, decided I was innocuous and I felt the same about him. I could see the attraction for couples (and indeed I snagged it at a later date for myself and my sister on flights to and from JNB) but for me as a single it was OK.
