VA vs Delta Mileage Redemption

Hi,

I've been doing some checking for a future MAN-LAS trip. Over the next few months, I suspect that I will be making a few business class flights with Saudia, and thought that seeing as I have a Delta Skymiles account could have the milage credited to this account rather than an Air France account.

The plan would be to use the Delta miles to cover one MAN-LAS flight whilst using VA miles for another two seats.

However, when I had a dummy run on both websites for availability on these flights, VA were wanting 20k miles + £157 whereas Delta were after 60k miles + £228.

Can anyone explain the apparent inconsistency between the two schemes? I would add that I checked for a number of dates, and in all cases the discrepency was the same.

Not sure where you've got the 20k from. If you were able to use VS miles, it's 45k round trip MAN-LAS in Y. However, since you'll be wanting to use SkyMiles, the 60k you're seeing is Delta's round trip saver award redemption level. You'll be lucky to make it at just 60k probably, although I honestly have no idea of the availability of DL rewards. Plus, you might be looking at limited redemptions that VS offer to DL on their metal.

Edit: I re read your post. I see that you'd be using VS miles for some and DL for another. The difference between the miles levels are just between the airlines, though I find legacy US carrier miles to be way harder to use internationally.

Apologies - the 20k on VA was a one way flight (actually 21750 miles) and the Delta flight I did enter as a one-way flight only for 60k. Not sure then if Delta would only allow return flights to be booked!!!

At worst case, I would still have sufficient VA miles for 3 of us to travel one-way (planning to return from Dan Diego or LAX using Avios), but just trying to take advantage of some additional flights and not waste the opportunity to obtain some additional miles!!!
