Hello and a question

Hi all finally after a lot of lurking biting the bullet and posting

Have read so much over the last few months that has helped so much

Have a question for you though

I have PE flights booked for June next year to Cuba and wondered if it would be possible to upgrade to UC using just miles?

Flight class is K so have a feeling the answer will probably be a negative one

Or should I just hang fire and wait till a week or so before and hope for some good luck.

All thoughts welcome

'K' is the cheapest PE fare bucket and isn't upgradable using miles I'm afraid.

Only the more expensive 'S' and 'W' PE fares are upgradable - and only if you booked direct via VS, not via an agent.

You could try calling VS and asking how much it would cost to change from 'K' to 'S' but there may be a hefty fee as 'K' fares are heavily restricted when it comes to changes or cancellations.

If you booked directly with VS then give them a call and see how much it would be to put yourself into an upgradable fare bucket but I'd only do this if you can do the upgrade into UC at the same time.

If you booked via a travel agent (including V Holidays) you need to do it via them.

It was booked via VH so guess will call them although will leave it tilll closer to the time in the hope they may have some seats they want to fill

Tonty and gumshoe are right - k is not upgradable but you could always try calling VS or travel agent.

I just wanted to make a comment about your username - if it is a real email address, having it on display at a public forum might not be the safest as you might get all sort of spam. It might not be an issue for you, but just thought I'd let you know in case you hadn't thought about it already.

Whilst a K fare is very restricted in terms of changes, as long as you are not changing the dates or flights of travel, it can be upgraded, but only with cash.

You'll have to pay the difference between the K fare & the higher, upgradable, S or W fare. There may also be a change fee of £50 to pay (Virgin sometimes waive this if all you are doing is changing the class of travel to a higher cabin). Once you have your S or W fare, you can splash the miles on an upgrade to Upper Class, subject to the G fare being available.

As has been said above, call Flying Club if you booked direct with Virgin. They will be able to tell you what it would cost - you can then decide whether or not you need to be checking the VS site daily for G seats to be released on your flights.

We did the same recently. Upgraded the K fare to an upgradable one at a cost of £563.40 for two seats plus 25,000 miles. That was on an outbound to BGI.
