Today Boeing launched the 748, although currently the only orders are for the cargo version, but we shall see. I am assuming this is what used to be the 747adv, although boeing does not actually say.

It mentions that the 747-8 "will feature the new Boeing Signature Interior". Is that the new Signagure interior that was launched in 1995 or a different New New one? Its getting to be like BA isn't it.

Will be interesting to see how airlines go with this, and of course how it goes against the 380 and Dreamliner.

I really do not want to start the "boeing Vs Airbus" fight, but I have to say, personally, this bird is gorgeous where to me, the A380 (Super Guppy) isn't. I do hope that SRB buys this bird instead of more Airbuses

Alan, if you don't want to start a mud-slinging fight of A vs B, then probably best not to describe the Airbus bird as a Super Guppy. Might raise the hackles of pro-A380 posters ;)

In terms of VS, it looks like they are heading down the all-Airbi route, although never say never where VS is involved. If they can get a cracking deal on the airframes, then the 747-800 may one day feature in their line up.

If you do want to start a fight,just say that XP pro is better than OS X

ok on to the subject,well as a lover of the 744,im happy to see Boeing taking up the challenge of the A380,it will be interesting to see how far it goes,with 744's being turned into cargo planes quicker than they are retired it seems a logical choice of boeing to put the cargo version on the market first,with the lower operating costs and the fact that airports wont have to refit to accept it the 748 may stand a fighting chance.

Hmm, I dont know, I think I could get a bigger fight out of saying XP is better than Linux...

Its nice to see that Boeing are upodating my favourite aircraft, as for a short time back there, I felt that it was finally over for the 747, and it would be solely a cargo plane. Once again, Boeing have made me very happy.

It certainly looks nice ... and it has to be good to have competition because it will raise Airbus's game. Guess BA will be ordering it since Willie Walsh recently said the 380 didn't figure in their plans.

Now is the opportunity for 380 buyers to really stamp their mark on the project by announcing how they are going to fit it out and what services to offer. Be good to see Virgin emulate some of the feeling of why we like the upper deck on a 747 by zoning the 380 into more intimate experiences.

btw, someone recently said the 380 was due to visit LHR in December, any one know when?

Some people are saying that there will be an option to have pseudo-skylights on the passenger version, something that I definitely thought of a long time ago.

Rumors are also floating around that in the coming weeks, if not days, there will be a passenger order by CX, BA, or Singapore Airlines.

I think the BA speculated order is just the a.net rumour-mill. The only official word from BA is they are not shopping for any aircraft at the moment, even though cheerleaders from both Boeing & Airbus claim their order for a significant number of the 747Adv & A380 respectfully is just about to drop.

As for the others, they may be a.net speculation too. The only "source" for those rumours was the Seattle Times, who seem to get their insider info via 'leaks' from a major aircraft manufacturer near them. [:w]

I expect so. It has often been remarked upon how striking the similarity is between me and a sopwith camel... Well it sounded like sopwith anyway.

As to linux v XP, well linux sounds like a character from Peanuts so must be better.

Now back to 747-800.

Oh and by the way, apparently it is not the 747-800, but the 747-8. Don't ask me why, but on all Boeing's PRs and websites it is saying simply, 747-8.

it will be the 747-800 by the time it launches..article in USA Today said the launch for pax aircraft is 2009,seems pretty quick to me,guess they had a lot of it figured out already,building a new wing is not a quick process.

Very cool web site. The thing that caught my eye, and maybe it will also catch SRB's, is the bit about the B747-8 being the most fuel efficient long range aircraft, even 6% more than the A380.

Battle lines drawn I'm afraid. Bias hat off: Competition is good.
