I've seen some incredible prices using the ex-eu trick, it's my first time using this so I have a few questions if you don't mind. If I book flying from Dublin do I have to to the sector from LHR-DUB once the trip is completed or can I just skip this sector and go home which is close to London, also do I receive the miles for this? Thanks all y)

In theory you don't have to fly the final sector. You won't earn any miles for that sector if you miss it but you'll still earn miles for all the sectors you did fly.

You do have to fly the first sector from DUB-LHR though. If you don't, you risk the entire ticket becoming void as you'll be classed as a no-show.

If your return long haul flight to London arrives at LHR, you'll have to ask the check in agent to tag your bag to LHR rather than through to DUB. Shouldn't be a problem if you're flying VS but if you're with BA there've been anecdotal reports of them insisting on tagging bags right through to the final destination. If you're arriving into LGW but your DUB flight leaves from LHR it's not an issue.

You should also be aware that there've been anecdotal reports of BA cancelling Avios accounts where they believe people have been using the ex EU trick. It's very unlikely, and they'd probably only notice if someone was doing it very regularly, but for those who've got a lot of Avios banked up it's a risk some may not be prepared to take.

Just ask for your bags to be checked through to London only so you can use revivals. Its a legitimate and reasonable request. I did a live ex-EU trip report a few ex-EU trips back.
