Ebola is, I think, an unsubtle disease that is spread once symptoms are evident, and most virulent in late stages. She wasn't showing symptoms on the flight, so risk should be minimal.

No different to any other 'tropical' disease that get brought into countries all over the world on a daily basis. All that's different is that the media have seized on it like it's the first sign of the Rapture.

Thanks Darren for some sensible talk. In a grand scheme of things that cause death, Ebola isn't among the top ones, nor is it very communicable except in certain stages (which you'd likely know about). Time to move on.

Is Ebola a serious disease of course it is but it helps no one to over react - see the US response.

I read on flyer talk someone saying they would refuse to fly on the 'ebola' plane. That's when I gave up reading. No doubt there are demands for the plane to be burned and destroyed and then burned again.

Such a different tone from the thread on Flyertalk where there is some hysteria, demands the plane is taken out of use etc.

In fact the BA aircraft the infected lady flew on was in service the following day (to Nice I believe). I would have had no qualms sitting on it.

I have, as yet, not found one case of Ebola down here in Devon, though I do ask everyone with a fever now if they or a close contact have visited Western Africa in recent weeks.

The lady did transit in Casablanca on her return to Glasgow. We are off to Morrocco in 5 weeks. Maybe I should cancel?

I hope she gets well soon. The team at the Royal Free will provide the highest standard of care, so I expect a good outcome for her, though she must be petrified having sen the illness at close hand herself.

i remember travelling to india a couple of times while there was an outbreak of bubonic plague, people stayed away in droves

the near-empty flights were great, flip up the arm rests and sprawl

Yes that's the one tontybear! I too had to sit on my hands and resist responding. It is worse than reading the Daily Heil webpages I loved the response that the BA staff on the gate agreed they would not have flown on the aircraft either, so his views were justified! One should always follow the advice of airport staff in matters of infection control rather than the experts, I agree!
