......now you don't!!
Last August I booked my flight on VS to Dubai [y] but at the time did not book my connecting flight from ORK to LHR. At the time they were showing €74 each way excluding taxes which for the two of us totalled about €400 [:0] No matter, I was prepared to wait. To be honest I didn't expect to see the outbound come down by much as it was at Easter weekend but I thought the midweek return would drop.
From time to time I checked and it remained at the €74 each way but after a couple of months it dropped to €54/44. A week later it was back up to €74/74 and then down to €54/44 At one stage the return dropped to €9 and I seriously contemplated buying it as a single fare but decided to hold off as I would have to pay a second handling charge when I bought the outbound flight. In any case I was too late. The next night it was up to €54/44.
At this stage my trip to Washington was in the offing and I decided to put it behind me till my return. That night, having perused all that had happened on V-Flyer and a couple of other boards I visit, it suddenly occurred to me that we were now in the winter timetable and maybe they had made changes to next summer's timetable so off I went to the Aer Lingus website. Tippety-tap, clickety-clack and out popped the fares for my dates - €9 each way on all flights for those days [^][^][^] Figuring I wouldn't get better I nabbed them there and then and with the outlay for taxes I had 2 return tickets for €140 [y]
I was chuffed to little mintballs and the next day I visited the site of my victory. The fares were coming in once more at €54/44 [:0][:0] and although the return has dropped to €24 at no stage has the €9 fare returned. I keep looking at my confirmation email. It is there in black and white. The money has been taken from my account but I am still waiting for the heavens to fall. So far they haven't.
Now if only I could get similar fares for my Sydney trip. They are currently coming in at €44/54 [n]
