Contrary to what you have posted here two days ago, it is only tonight that Aer Lingus is meeting to discuss the wording of their statement to the Stock Market recommending acceptance of IAG's offer by the shareholders. This must now be discussed by them (including Ryanair and the Irish government) as well as being considered by the Competitions Authority in the EU.

I still stand by what I posted in another post. The knock-on effect of this over here is considerable depending on where you live or are employed.

I will never fall for that one again!

I don't post much on here anymore, but felt I should just row in here to agree wholeheartedly with honey lamb.

I'm watching the developments here with "Nervous Optimism". While being a member of IAG, should by all accounts give, EI a firm financial footing to continue their very good work of late, be of benefit to those of us with our feet firmly in the BAEC program & perhaps help expand the EI TATL network.

The prospect of "Wee Wille" being back at the helm again gives me shudders, as I think of the de-moralised crew & staff of not that many years ago !

The complete erosion, of food, service & overall standards, that has taken place at BA, in particular in CW, since he took over there, doesn't bode well for the currently excellent service on EI, TATAL J in particular.

Then there is the absolute massive implications to ORK & SNN. The breath of which cannot really be fully understood in fairness, unless you are actually here & use those airports on a regular basis.

This, for us here on this sodden little green island of ours, is a huge deal, not to mention a political hot potato. On the surface I feel it could be a good thing, but I'm very much apprehensive as to what the reality of IAG ownership could do to our airline & those who use it, in the long term.

And two day ago I agreed I worded that statement wrong? I had repeated what I had heard in the media.

The Aer Lingus board have now said they are "willing to recommend the offer to shareholders"

I haven't said there aren't other implications that need to be thought through by all agreeing/disagreeing with the deal?

What I have said:

In the recent past the Irish gov have implied that one of the conditions they would seek on a sale would be for Aer Lingus to keep all its LHR routes. Though they have recently changed their wording to not be quite so specific on LHR.

If IAG owned Aer Lingus, BA would be in a better position to drop some if not most of their Irish routes, as Aer Lingus would now be part of the same group, not a competitor.

Is there a better alternative for Aer Lingus. There was a recent article suggesting the all three major airline groups IAG LH and AFKLM could possibly go under in the face of the ME3 which also stated that IAG due to its recent cost cutting has the best chance of survival. Sometimes you have to make cuts to survive. Aer Lingus will not survive long term without a parter just as VS needed Delta. If IAG improve Aer Lingus the way they have IB I would be all for it.
