My usual twice/3 times a year LHR/JNB/LHR have been on B744 and 346 metal ..all using either M to G upgrades , straight G rewards or Z's via AMS. :)

So, for my Nov/Dec trip this year, at last, I've managed to bag M fares and upgrades to P.E. outbound and U.C. return..all on the Dreamliner 789 which starts this route in October.

I'll keep looking for a "G" on the outbound...right up until departure day.... I cant turn right after all these G's can I..? ):

I know its early days for TR's on the 789 Dreamliner and I'm not expecting much feedback from V-Flyers but, for now, I've requested 23C outbound and 5A on the return ( not to far away but close enough to the bar and facing the wall for more privacy) ...thoughts on the seat requests appreciated.

I like an aisle seat, hence 23C....all rows further forward in P.E were greyed out..maybe requested already or held back until OLCI opens up.

I'll keep trying for the outbound G and set up a TR for this new 789 route.

I'm really looking forward to the Dreamliner experience...hopefully U.C both ways ii)

5a will be fine ,Mid cabin facing the wall as you know . It's a nice cabin but to be honest I wasn't blown away by it ,maybe I was expecting it to be a lot different

That's why they introduced the 330, to make the 789 cabin feel like "wow" when it's very much like the 343 or 346. Actually, it did feel a bit spacier (or perhaps that was just me after too many glasses in the CH), the windows are bigger and, something I forgot to mention in my Boston TR, on the A side you have access to two sets of overhead lockers, yours and the one above the wall.

Yeah but because it's a family occasion, I still need to know the dates.

The forthcoming trip on BA *washes my mouth out* was determined by price. I feel sadly let down by VS :#

Too many holidays Mr Cooper :0

Good Job on the Dreamliner and I'm sure your usual diligence on constantly checking the VS pages will grab an outbound Upper seat :D

Enjoy :P

With regards to the greyed out seats in PE, i have been working through EC/PE and UC with these flights to JNB over the lat few days and it looks like the bassinet positions are all greyed out anyway and in PE the second row is held back. Cant remember if this was the same for EC.

If only I had your luck on blagging G's! :o)

Seems now that all the rewards on this route are allocated and online early morning and then, not much change throughout the day... |:)

Yes, I'll keep the constant check routine....if I don't answer the phone to you...you'll know I'm on the "G" case!...or maybe, a lesser priority.... doing some real work. ):

As it stands I am flying out on the 18th Dec, unless a UC opens on the 21st. Few festive drinks in the clubhouse!

I took the 787 to IAD last week and my excitement was unnecessary.
Apart form a few more curvy edge refinements to the seat I could easily have been on a 340.
I did not notice any difference in noise - probably most to the benefits are operational rather than pax noticeable although internet is available. The champagne was replaced with a rather peculiar coloured English Sparking specially developed for the 787 air. I think someone has wasted a lot of time over thinking this - not a patch on proper bubbly.
The walls seemed to be straighter meaning you could lean back against the walls
more comfortably.
There was also a new and significantly enhanced amenity kit.

Good work, I am still waiting for a second G to open up on the outbound. The wife has calmed down a bit but is still threatening to abuse my credit card if that G doesnt open :)

Is that enhanced in the airline sense of the word or the literal meaning? :)

it really was enhanced. Much nicer design of case (rather than a bit of old grey sack) and with useful things inside including a toothbrush that does not twist round and round when you try and use it.
