If you got status with BA then the 2 bags at 32kg on short haul plus seat choice for extra leg room seats keeps me loyal. However if I have re-qualified already for gold and its hand luggage only I would consider Monarch or Easy Jet.

The one thing that is putting me off easyjet was that my last flight back from cyprus was on an older plane and the legroom was noticeably different to the outbound which was on a newer plane with the thin seats

I recently flew EZY only a short flight, but it was a new aircraft out and old back. The difference in legroom was very noticeable, the return on the older aircraft was so uncomfortable and that was an hour flight - any longer I would have really struggled.

The new BA aircraft are really really nice if you get one.

I know exactly what you mean , I was lucky I had my son next to me so was able to swing my legs round in to his space ,
Well I think I'm going to give BA a go and start collecting some avios y)

No, you misunderstand. He says VS is his preference for long-haul and BA for short, meaning he prefers BA over other short haul operators - not meaning to warn you off flying BA for long haul. Much as this is a VS-loving community, as we know our beloved Virgin longer fly to Japan therefore BA is arguably a legitimate option.

Personally for the longer European sectors such as eastern Mediterranean, Egypt, Israel I'd choose EZY over BA - price dependent of course. This is purely on the basis that, for a very reasonable fee, I can select row 1 which has empty space in front of it and pretty much unlimited leg room. Yes on BA I can select a seat but, unless I'm paying big ££ for Club Europe, row 1 is not an option. I generally book flights months in advance & have never not been able to secure row 1 on EZY.

I enjoyed Row 1 on our flights to Rhodes last year, definitely worth the extra :)

There's definitely more legroom. Be sure you have booked the second row of the two rows of overwing emergency exit seats. Seats in the first row won't recline whereas those in second row do.

Indeed, it's not bad at all, recall bacon rolls and I believe a reasonable bloody mary in there a few years back. I'm actually wondering how the BA club lounge will stack up by comparison, given that I don't even think a bacon roll will be on the cards when we're there in April.

The BA Club lounge at LGW is poor - even the staff are embarrassed by it. Last time I was there at lunchtime there was no hot food, just salad, snacks & sandwiches. While I was in there I received a request to complete a survey on my phone; I told them in no uncertain terms what I thought and within an hour was paged over the tannoy, only to be apologised to by the lounge manager!

They clearly intend to run it down until the move to the South Terminal next year. Until then I honestly believe the No.1 Lounge is a better offer.

No point in upgrading to CE for the lounge aspect then !

Nor indeed for any other reason (legroom, quality of champagne onboard etc...).

I get the run-down aspect given the terminal shift, but given that LGW is going to be carrying proportionately more premium passengers travelling on their own dime (as opposed to us corporate types that usually stick to LHR), you'd really think BA would make more effort to make the whole experience, lounges included, a bit more 'premium'. At least I have already had my expectations managed, but what would a couple/family on that Once-In-A-Lifetime special trip in club think if they turned up to a grotty BA lounge...

Suffice to say, I will not hold back with the comments book! I can't imagine my dear wife being at all impressed compared with the CH.

Don't get me wrong - it's a nice enough space and isn't in any way shabby. Just poor facilities. It'll make a lovely Clubhouse if and when VS switch terminals ;)

Sounds a bit like the old domestic lounge at LHR T1, great space, but not great food/drink. I guess what gets me is that I've spent many years getting to the point where I have 'sold' the idea of holiday business class flights to my better half, so I don't want the reaction to be "we're not spending a fortune on that crap again". First world domestic problems, but I'm crossing my fingers :|

With the new cabin re-fits the Exit seat rows may differ from what you see on seat guru etc. Check the offocoal BA seat pans on MMB or BA Source. Also BA at LGW can, and do, change aircraft at the last minute so check at T-24 that your A320 is not, in fact, an A319 or something else. And finally there are differener configs of BA A320s, the CY168 Pinnacle for example does fly to LCA but Row 13 is not an exit seat:

http://www.thebasource.com/seatmaps/a32 ... nacle.html

And the ex-BMI A320s do not have a Row 13 at all, just 12 and 14.

And at the risk of being pedantic, all the BA narrowbodies I've ever been on have ABCDEF seat lettering, so if you're really in a K seat, I think you're on a widebody. Either that or you'll be strapped to the wing :-)

Well done RC for spotting the deliberate mistake , I'm in 13F , definitely the second row of exit seats according to my seat map
