Vegan / Vegetarian Meals

Hello V-Flyers

So as the countdown enters T100 the excitement builds and I can start messing about on seat selection and the such...

Mrs Armstrong is Vegetarian / Vegan and has asked me what meal choices she will get. I have had the quick Google look and I cannot find anything conclusive... I was hoping that some of you lovely V-Flyers would know!

Also, were flying on the VS027 in PE and Eco on the return (at the moment ...) Would this make any difference to the meal and serving..?

If Mrs A is strict vegan she will have to pre-order a vegan meal in advance as none of the normal on-board choices will be suitable.

If she's vegetarian she can either pre-order a vegetarian meal in advance or choose the vegetarian option from the normal on-board menu. Chances are it'll be pasta or a curry.

Thanks Gumshoe - I did come across that page, but its pretty sparse on what you actually get..! Its a tricky one as you cant take food through customs so your at the mercy of either the food they serve or what you can grab in the South Terminal before hand post customs...

Or take everything from the CH before the flight, but I guess that will only be fruit...

Is there anywhere to find out what the meal is, so far I can only tell you what was on offer in 2009..!

They don't publish actual menus unfortunately, and they change several times a year.

There's nothing to stop you taking food through security as long as it's solid and there's no liquid or sauce. There's an M&S Simply Food landside in the South Terminal so if you're worried Mrs A won't like any of the meal options you could always stock up on salad, fruit etc before you go airside. Just make sure you don't take any fresh food through customs when you arrive at the other end.

Thanks Dixky, that would be amazing, I (and Mrs A) would really appreciate that...

Mrs A is Vegan, but if it was either not eating for 8 hours or Vegetarian she would 'pick around' a meal if you know what I mean.

Gumshoe, I didn't realise that you could take food through Customs - I guess as were traveling down the night before a quick pit stop will have to be done in London... Mrs A can visit a nice Vegan shop and I shall wait for her Searcys in St Pancras...

You can take food out of the country, the problem is usually getting it through customs on arrival (depending on what it is).

As an aside don't forget you can now select seats any time after booking, so no need to wait anymore.

I have booked my PE seats, not the ECO on the return (still hoping for that upgrade).

Got seats on the Upper Deck, but not the ones I wanted at the back of the cabin (was hoping for row 24 - if not 19) but alas, 22 will have to do for now. I will, however go for an upgrade using miles at the desk on the day - cant now as booked through VH not VS...

I think a trip to Pret will be in order before the CH - well, a trip for Mrs A whilst I have a sneaky bacon roll and champagne in the CH..!

If flying in the LGW 747-1 to MCO in the Bubble, do we get off the plane first or last..? The more I read the more I get worried about customs at MCO!

Not first. Last year I was PE in row 19 and we first off.
Followed by the rest of downstairs PE and Upper.
I can't say when the bubble disembarked but I suspect it would be after the Upper and before the main cabin.
I will try and add this to my TR as this year we are 6A&K so will be the last of the lefties to get off.

On VS 27 today the veggie option was Paneer musallam.
Chunks of homemade Indian cheese in a rich cashew almond and coconut gravy, with onion pilau. I had it and it was very tastey.
Disembarking was PE and Upper from the nose followed by the bubble followed by the rest of economy. Sadly for us the Manchester flight got in before us with 260 on board so there was a bit of a queue for immigration. We used the new self service booth and got through in half an hour.
TR to follow when I've driven up to South Carolina and settled in, but have to say 10/10 to the CC on our flight.
