Chinese Visa (72 Hrs)

Hi,

I'm off to Shanghai (UC - yay!) later this year. Our plan is 3 days in Shanghai followed by a flight down to Hong Kong for 5 nights and back to LHR from there.

My question is can we just get a 72 hour transit visa on arrival? From reading online as long as it's less than 72hr stay, we have valid visa and confirmed seat to HKG, we should be ok. Does anyone have any experience of using it? Just don't want to muck up our trip by finding out we don't have right visa on arrival at Heathrow for our flight.

Yes that's correct
As long as you have onward tickets within 72 hours then it's fine.
Not so long ago they had a seperate desk for the 72 hour scheme.

Yes -- but with relaxed visa laws for many nationalities, if your British you can stay in HK up to 180 days visa exempt, --- and interestingly if you are just crossing from HK into Shenzhen you can get a resticted Shenzhen visa on the border valid for 5 days

If you travel between Hong kong and the mainland you'll certainly realise they're still completely seperate on border controls and immigration.

ISTBC but UK passengers currently eligible, although this status changes frequently.
I've been able to renew without problem my 2yr business multi entry for almost a decade now, so have never used this service myself
