/ignorant mode on

OK, I admit complete and utter ignorance to most things east-bound [:I]

So - simple question (I'm sure, with many complicated answers..!):

What's with the SQ double-dip for KrisFlyer/PPS and Flying Club? What/How is it done?

Cheers!

If you mean the unofficial Double Dip that used to work I'm not sure it does anymore.

Details here.

Ah, thanks Phil. That one looks a bit dodgy though!

It wasn't actually anything that broke any rules - apparently, you can claim flight credits with SQ while still putting the mileage through FC (officially, too!).

I just can't find anywhere on either site with the what/how...

Not sure if I should say this (BA spies beware) but the same used to apply on BA European flights with AA miles - put your AA AAdvantage number on the booking and get miles in the AA account, then retrospectively go to BA.com and claim BA miles as 'missing miles'. Worked for me a few times but I haven't tried it for a year or so ...

Ah, that post of mine is in the Members area, so here's a brief summary of my experience with SQ and FC.

In short, it's completely legit. The PPS Club is a scheme that runs in parallel to the regular miles scheme and you can only accrue the points for flying in Raffles/First. Get 25 in a year and you're a member, giving you Star Alliance Gold.

What you can do on top of this, is also hand over your FC card as well as your KrisFlyer card at check-in (although calling the KrisFlyer number before you fly is a better way) and have the actual flights credited to your Virgin account. These then qualify for miles/TP's as usual.

Ben is right about my Gold Running using this method: I mistakenly gave them my Diamond Club number when I flew in December, so I'm currently 10 TP's short, but once I get them back and moved over to Virgin, I get my shiny gold card!

Thanks guys,

Darryl, how many "points" are awarded for a LHR-SIN-CHC return in J?

Hi Paul,

Looking at that trip and using the PPS Points info here:

https://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/ ... member.jsp

...it looks like you'll earn 5 points for LHR-SIN, and 3.75 for SIN-CHC. So, 8.75 x 2 = 17.5, leaving you 7.5 PPS points left to find to qualify for membership. :)

Cheers,

Darryl

Cool - thanks [y]

Interesting that the % increase in PPS points is not exactly proportionate to the % increase in cost of First Class over Raffles... [:0]

Ben> No worries, glad I could be of use in this chat. :) Hopefully will see you on the 28th, jetlag and work permitting!

Paul> My thoughts exactly on the points difference between Raffles and First! However, it's unlikely work will ever send me in First and my own pennies won't stretch to it, so it's a moot point for me, really! :)

Depends how it is ticketed though. If it's ticketed LHR-CHC (on one line) you will only get 5. If it shows 2 separate lines on your ticket (LHR-SIN and SIN-CHC) you will get 8.75.

They're ticketed as 4 flights - each sector is detailed.

Not sure it's possible to get it ticketed in another way - as all the flight booking sites I used detailed it as four seperate flights (not a "includes 1 stop" style).

The SQ flights i took were all ticketed seperately too, much to my delight as it was then a lot clearer in terms of my gaining the tier points. On my original invoice from Travelbag it said 'HKG-BKK' and 'KUL-SYD' but the tickets arrived as HKG-SIN & SIN-BKK and KUL-SIN & SIN-SYD

ISTR that if you are routing through the main hub (i.e. SIN for SQ, AKL for ANZ) then this is how the tickets are issued, whether this is actually true, and for what reasons though, i do not know.

Still, it makes life easier for us miles and points whores out there :)
