Having just purchased 2 new lightweight hand luggage cases I am disappointed to find I can not use these on Virgin flights but I can on many other airlines, do you not think its about time the industry got their act together and made all hand luggage a standard size. My case sizes are 55 x 40 x 20cm. For information YES allows my size NO is smaller sizes. |:)

Interesting to note that most of the charter and budget airlines allow the larger size.

While technically you may not be allowed to take them on board VS, in reality it's pretty rare that they enforce it, judging from previous V-Flyer experiences.

as gumshoe says, it's rare that limits are enforced

low cost airlines are probably strict as oversize/weight bags are a revenue stream, but fortunately VS still offers a much better experience - i've seen pax with crazy sized bags and the CC still doing all they can to fit them in somewhere

fwiw i use a porter boston bag, this gets much too fat for VS rules once i've crammed it to bulging point and then squeezed in the duty free port, it's also usually way over the weight limit, but i can't recall as much as a suspicious glance on the way through check-in/boarding

As others have said, if your cabin baggage is slightly over the size limits, you are highly unlikely to have it refused. They are far more bothered about weight for safety reasons (heavy bags potentially falling on people).

I have a wheelie Samsonite case that is about 60x40x26cm and I have taken this onboard as cabin baggage without any problem. It was under the 10kg weight limit too.
