After a short work assignment (something that was a little unexpected after being retired for two years) the opportunity arose for a short break and we chose Las Vegas - if nothing else to visit a resident V Flyer

I must admit to a slight trepidation in booking to Las Vegas following a few negative TRs that had been posted here - but I can report nothing could have further from the truth.
So, on the morning of our departure, Mr Tristar arrived ahead of schedule and he being a local lad knew the quick way and within 20 minutes we were pulling up to the upper curbside at Gatwick's South Terminal. Upper Check In was empty and we were seen promptly and quickly made our way upstairs. As others have reported, the Premium Security Entrance is currently closed but a separate lane has been marked off in the general security area. For some reason, I was selected for a body scan and a swab of my bags, but this did not hinder arriving at the Clubhouse within 40 minutes of leaving home

(As an aside, once you have picked up your bags from the security check the is a door opposite above which is a sign from the Clubhouse - taking this avoids going downstairs and back up again)
Anyway, the warm welcome at the Clubhouse only confirms to me why this is the best Clubhouse on the Network. It may be small, but the intimate nature of the venue really does epitomise what a Clubhouse is all about. I should perhaps mention that it was only 7:20 by now and breakfast and champs ordered

Mrs Buns made a beeline for the spa and booked her treatment whist the food was being prepared and she was successful and moreover, i too was able to book a manicure

After breakfast we retired to the snug for a lovely coupe of hours of Redheads, Champs, Shoe Shine etc, etc. On this occasion no celebs or other famous peeps, but I am sure there were one or two in the Clubhouse who must have thought we were VIPs by the way the staff there bid us farewell

A stroll down to Gate 21 were most of the passengers had already boarded and we were straight down the Jetway.
Once in our sets the crew came round and offered the Garden Brut - I have to there is no comparison to the Lanson offered in the Clubhouse. Push back on time and a fairly quick taxi saw us in the air. A super crew, led by a mature FSM and the full cabin all received due attention and service. The FSM did point out that with it being a Wednesday flight, there was less stag and hen parties to contend with.
To the Menu:
Starters
Pea and mint soup
Warm chicken satay
Buffalo mozzarella and Roma tomatoes
Mains
Lemon and thyme chicken
Seafood linguine
Kerlan curry
Chilled Thai beef salad
Pudding
Warm brioche and butter pudding
Chocolate torte
I opted for tyre soup and linguine, followed by brioche and butter pudding. Mrs Buns had the chicken followed by the cheese. The preparation and presentation were top notch and most enjoyable. I always avoid the wines on board 9as does Mrs

I watched the Imitation Game, which held my interest, even there was a degree or artistic licence on the historical accuracy.
It has been some time since we have been on a 747, and to get the full Afternoon Tea Service made a difference to the service on a 330. Soon after we were descending into Las Vegas.
At McCarran, they use both L1 and L2, so we were off in a flash and on arrivals into the Immigration Hall, we were directed to the machines and were through in no time at all. So much so, that we beat our driver by some 10 minutes!!
All in all, a superb flight, a good attentive crew and coupled with the Clubhouse, even more reason to keep flying VS
