UBER

On my way to pudong for the VS251, saw a friend off on what should of been the last ever 340-300 flight yesterday.
I download UBER for this trip and can't praise it enough, used it in Bangkok and Shanghai and the cars have all been Audi A6 or Mercedes E Class and every time I get the receipt I'm left thinking ' is that it?'
I know taxis are cheap out here but i doubt these UBER black cats are much more.

I've only used them once, in London, but was very happy with the service. They might be controversial but I for one am glad they're giving the whinging, complacent black cab drivers with their overpriced, uncomfortable taxis a run for their money.

I witnessed my first ever Uber transaction in San Francisco the other week of a friend. It is rather impressive I have to say. I am an Uber virgin though which I need to change just for the sake of doing it !

It really is a brilliant service. Unfortunately they've just been barred from Lee County where I visit a few times per year. It's also very handy out of JFK and stupidly cheap in Dubai.

Mainly use in London where the drivers can be hit or miss, but when you're saving 50% compared to AddLee, I rarely complain.

I use Lyft just about every time I go out these days (in Nashville) and have since they came online in Dec '13. Excellent service.

Uber is also streets ahead of any taxi, but their model, at least here, screws the drivers, so we only use if Lyft is unavailable.

I used both in NYC a couple of weekends ago too and will likely pick one or more up in London next week.

That's a problem for me too. Technology enabling a race to the bottom, where those who shoulder the risk actually get the lowest reward (kind of the reverse of how it should be) and again become the ragged trousered philanthropists.
