To be fair, when they serve you WARM fizzy anything (as has happened a few times on board - pre take-off - recently) those subtle aromatic nuances rather go out the window...
No champagne hasn't gone so calm down the bean counters haven't been at work and no virgin isn't taking 10 steps backward.
As has already been stated, Meon Hill is served on the 787 as it's a British Sparkling wine which has come up trumps against champagne in blind taste testing, and virgin being virgin are offering it instead of champagne. I believe there is champagne still available on the 787 for those who are utterly outraged by Meon hill being served.
Also on all other flights it's the Gardet champagne being served. I think the VS7 is now operated by the 787 hence the sparkling wine.
