Hello everyone, hoping all you knowledgeable people can help me with a few questions.

Delta Skymiles vs Virgin FC:
I am flying to Boston on Friday with VS (back via Atlanta also with VS). Internally I have some Delta flights booked and I was just wondering if I can get the miles credited to my FC account or if I have to credit to a Skymiles account (I don't currently have one)?

Also I booked some Delta flights for my boyfriend using a KLM e-voucher he had and I created an Air France skyblue account for him to be able to collect the miles. (It was all very confusing at the time and I am not sure I did the right thing). Can we just ask for the Delta miles to be credited to his FC account?

Lounges:
I have a 3 hr stopover in Atlanta and wondering which is the best lounge to use. I have a Lounge Club card that I got with my Amex Preferred Rewards Gold card so I can get into The Club lounge in Terminal F. Has anyone got experiences of this lounge or others in ATL? I will have my partner with me and he will have to pay for access so I don't really mind if we both have to pay to get into somewhere better.

Boston:
This is our first destination - we will be there from Friday evening til Monday morning. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on things to do/see/eat there?

New Orleans:
Is our second destination - we will be there from Monday evening to Saturday morning. Again, I would welcome any views and thoughts of people who have visited previously.

I think that's it for now...thank you all in advance for your advice.

For Boston - walk around town, Freedom Trail, North End, Waterfront, Beacon Hill, JFK Library, Harvard, Cheers Bar, Harpoon Brewery......

There a few V-Flyers for whom Boston is a favourite, and they'll be along shortly with guidance. Possibly including bars in which to pass 8 or so hours, IIRC. ii)

In New Orleans, take a trip to Frenchman Street in the evening. It's the heart of the real French Quarter music scene, particularly jazz. My wife and I spent a fantastic evening in the Spotted Cat bar drinking Southern Comfort and watching a couple of amazing jazz bands (and I was never a lover of jazz) with people dancing, drinking and just having a great time.

Bourbon Street has just become a party street for drunks, much like any UK city on a Saturday night. Frenchman Street is all about the music and the vibe. Just compare the Tripadvisor reviews for the two.

Hi Rabbit, I will try to cover your questions one at a time, let me know if I miss any..

- You can credit miles directly to your FC account - just make sure to put your VS FC number in your booking.
- It does sound confusing, but again, with the DL metal flights just make sure his VS FC number is in the DL booking and any miles due should find their way there (eventually)
- I used the Club lounge last year and found it perfectly adequate for my wait. It was no CH granted, but the supplied snacks and drinks were sufficient for the hour I spent there.
- What pjh says... subtle 8 hour reference I think was aimed at me, although it was only 6 hours spent at the bar awaiting the airport transfer Paul ii) There are a lot of bars and restaurants about Boston, whereabouts are you staying?
- Never been to New Orleans, sorry can't help on that one :#

Have fun planning 8D

Thanks for that tip. A short trip to New Orleans is on our radar at some point.

Boston Logon is very good from transport links to and from the city.
Just grab yourself a SilverLink bus in to and from the city. Lots to do there from the Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall, the Market also in this area that have guys that dress up as English guards etc, etc. The Aquarium, the dock etc. If you feel inclined you can also do a duck tour.
You can get the T up to Cambridge, you have the Green, with a cannon or two, famous battle was fought there, then of course you have Harvard which you can stroll around. If you go south, I think, you also have MIT.
As you can see, lots and lots to do in an around Boston.

We also enjoyed a Mississippi river trip on the S.S. Natchez. They always seem to show that boat on TV programmes about New Orleans (I can remember seeing it on shows with Trevor McDonald, the Hairy Bikers and Reginald D. Hunter).

Boston

Walk the Freedom Trail - no need to do an escorted tour - and you can go as far - or not - as you like and stop etc. It's well sign posted and there are plenty of maps. In these days of Apps I think there is one for it!

HI there,

Mrs Hull and I have been to New Orleans a couple of times and love it there.

Stay in the French Quarter if you can, our favourite Hotel is the Bourbon Orleans which is right next to St Louis Cathedral.

Bourbon street while fun at times does turn into a drunken mess the later into the evening you get.

The SS Natchez trip is quite interesting, we had great fun on the Segway tour, Beignets at Cafe du Monde are a must as is a trip on the Street Cars into the Garden District, we also took an evening Ghost Tour which was interesting but we felt like it was edging towards visiting some of the local bars at times rather than focusing on the tour.

The food here is just amazing K Paul's Louisiana Kitchen is probably my favourite restaurant ever (reservations required) have the Blackened Tenders in Debris Sauce, and Coop's Place down by the Market does some really good well priced food (fried Chicken with a side of Jambalaya $10).

Gator tours are great fun, we used Cajun Encounters, also a trip to Oak Alley (an old plantation house) in Vacherie is well worth it.

Enjoy your trip.

For Boston there's not much more I can add. It's a foodie place but you'd be forgiven if you think it's all steakhouses; it's not, but there are some good ones. Great seafood. Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market are a must, go into Quincy for a spot of lunch. You can graze from one thing to another (depending on your appetite). There's a little seafood bar down the left side from front entrance, about halfway, serves great oysters and lobster roll with a beer, or chowder. Heaven. It's got about half dozen seats around it, very small.

Chinatown isn't up to much, food not brilliant either, although we did have a decent meal in a non-tourist place, very downmarket but with fresh seafood (as in swimming in a tank when you order it). Everyone says Atlantic Fish is a tourist trap, maybe it is, but it's great for seafood. It's very busy, if you decide to try it don't try booking through open table as you get the worst time slots (as I found out). If you don't want to risk walking up without reservations get your concierge to sort it, even contact them in advance if necessary.

Museum of Fine Art is great, we spent a good 3-4 hours there and only did the Egyptian and American History exhibits. We had a citypass which was good value for main attractions including MoFA, aquarium etc. Also had discount vouchers for Macy's!

Can't think of anything else.

I'll second that for anyone who's a fan of their beer (I am :D ).

In the bars you'll also get to sample their different varieties and seasonal beers.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies.

Looks like a visit to the /Harpoon/Samuel Adams brewery will be on the cards (i'll be getting some girlfriend points for this!)

In Boston we are staying in an apartment I booked through AIRBNB (my new fave booking site), its in the South End and quite near transportation links. I enjoy having my own space and the facilities of home, its only 3 nights anyway so the studio apartment should be quite adequate.

I like the fact that Boston is dubbed 'the walking city' - we can burn off the calories we will be amassing.

In New Orleans we are staying in the Hyatt Regency near the superdome, since we are arriving on the Monday and the Jazz festival second weekend will have finished on the Sunday, I noticed the hotel prices were extremely high in the French Quarter so I decided that since we won't be spending much time in the hotel we could afford to be a bit further out (though this hotel is a short walking distance from the French Quarter and hopefully quieter!). It has a pool which im looking forward to using. Got a great deal through pointshound, around £460 for 5 nights and 9k FC miles (I also booked a friends room and will get 11K FC miles)!

Thank you Hull for the NOLA restaurant recommendation, I was literally drooling reading your description (how could 'debris' cause this?!) I am going to definitely book that one night for the group.

SS Natchez looks good too - my friends will definitely want to do this and we were talking about visiting a plantation house so will check out Oak House.

And thanks to DoomWolf for the explanation about Bourbon Street - I suspect we will possibly take a quick look and make our way to Frenchman street - just out of interest which part of Frenchman St should we head for (it looks like a very long street on Google maps)?

Very excited now!! :D

Got to 100% agree with that Bretty, forget to mention that.
Have to disagree with Atlantic Fish, only my own opinion but its not great sea food, its over priced and the service is not great. If you have time, get a rental car and drive up the I-95 to one of the little towns on the coast. There are a few but the one that sticks out to me is Pete's in Rye, NH.
This no nonsense, fresh as can be seafood, so fresh the fishing boats moor up out back!!

You want to be down at the south end from Esplanade Avenue up to Royal St. The Spotted Cat is between Chartres St and Royal St.

True Atlantic Fish is overpriced, as are many restaurants in Back Bay, but I found the food good and service excellent. Our waiter really earned his tip and looked after us. But as you say, it's personal opinion. I'd have loved to hire a car but my OH really wouldn't relax driving abroad. I've broached the subject several times and got either a 'no' or 'go on your own' :0 Ho hum...

We were just in Boston last week and had an amazing stay. Had one of the best meals of our life at O Ya. If you like Japanese, it's phenomenal, but you have to book as soon as tables are released as it's small and very popular. We sat at the counter and actually enjoyed it more than we would have done at a table.

If you have any interest at all in science and technology, the MIT museum is fascinating, especially all the robotics.

And the Sam Adams tour is great, I found it really interesting, even though I don't drink beer!
