Hi All

I think the answer is "no" but.....

I am booked in PE on VS (through VH) next month to GND. There is UC reward availability both ways at the moment - I have enough miles to upgrade (12,500 pp per leg?). However, I think VH book on a W bucket - which would mean that I cannot use miles to upgrade?

Has anyone got any smart ideas to be able to upgrade using miles - or has anyone managed to upgrade with miles with a VH booking on VS?

The last time I asked, the cash upgrade price was a lot!!

Thanks in advance :)

If all else fails remember anything is possible at the airport - normal rules go out the window at T-24 so if there are still seats free in UC at check in you may be in luck.

No guarantee but you never know, so get there early.

If it is of any interest to anyone - you need to pay the relevant price to get into the right fare bucket (to VH) and then call FC up and surrender the relevant miles to get from PE to UC and the extra taxes etc.

It comes out at slightly less £££ for my trip to do the miles route but you are using 50k miles (for 2 people)....and run the risk of paying the extra to VH and then the reward availability being snapped up in the time it takes to call up FC and cash the miles in...!

VS will hold a reward seat for you, they did this for me while I booked our return with BA in March, can't remember for how long but its at least 24hours. I had mine all sorted within a couple of hours.LInda

If you log onto 'my booking' it will show you the fare bucket next to the flight number in 'my itinerary'. But it's likely to be W.

I'm flying economy with them and they've given me a V fare. When I asked to use miles to upgrade they told me I couldn't do it direct with VS, I had to upgrade via VH, who wanted a hefty fee.

VS had held fares for me many times [I travel a lot at very short notice but still look for deals/upgrades] --- last July VS held an S with upgrade to G from a Thursday to Monday without any charge/penalty, although I did phone on the Friday to tell them I still couldn't confirm booking at that time :)
