Well I'm here in warm Malaga and went to collect my car fromHertz .
Long story short they wouldn't release / rent the car to me.
I 've rented here regularly over the years - I'm Presidents Circle and had an issue here last year where they charged me for an additional driver when they shouldn't have. I had bailiffs chasing me until Hertz finally admitted they'd blundered and took charge of the situation ( exonerating me of all blame) and called off the pit bulls ( actually that wasn't pleasant).
I've had lots of rentals since with Hertz ( USA, Australia , UK), without issue, the last bring 10 days ago at NCL and I have numerous other bookings showing on my Hertz account .
The chap at the desk tonight showed me the red flag on his screen and told me he couldn't release the car to me ( by this time I was totally Peed off given I spoke to Hertz this morning to make sure I wouldn't have any hassle about Mr DL being an additional driver . No problem they said.......... :(! )
The staff tonight couldn't get a duty manager to talk with me :(! .I Mr DL had to make a new reservation tonight as a walk up (not cheap) and we've been told to return to the airport tomorrow ( and I can't drive the car......).
What can I do ?
Absolutely evil (and consoling myself with alcohol currently).......

Time to take your custom elsewhere I'd say.

I've got status with Avis.
Hertz have been OK previously despite the couple of inconveniences.
Refusal of rental is a step too far for me :(!
Adios Hertz ( we've still got to go back tomorrow as I've got a current bookiing that I'll get charged for....).

Move your business. 'Tis all you can do against the corporate computer machines that businesses now are.

Vote your wallet & try to find someone high up at Hertz email address & let them know exactly why you are moving your custom.

Go get 'em DL then take your business elsewhere.

Thanks Bretty- an update of the situation . I rang Hertz this am - their customer service team do not work at weekends so nothing could be done for me ( at this pointing did start to rant).the agent I spoke to told me to rent with another supplier but to keep all the receipts and then call customer services again in Monday.
We returned to the airport with the intention of getting rental from Avis.
I spoke to the duty manager on returning the car. She looked at the reservation details on my iPad , my PC Card pressed lots of buttons on her computer and told me she'd see us on Friday night.
WTF????
I was a bit stunned and asked her what she meant . Sorted she said ......
I must have asked her about 5 times if my reservation was now active and that I could drive the car and she said yes. Each time .Mr DL asked about the cost of the rental that he'd had to take and she said she'd get it refunded ( we'll see but Amex can sort it out if it isn't).
I will email Mr Cunningham as I'm still very cross but have wasted enough time today when I should be enjoying myself.
Right off to my favourite shoe shop to see if they can lighten my mood :).

Glad you got it sorted DL, though I would not have given them another penny/cent of my custom after the baillif shenanigans.

Have fun and buy shoes :)

I was very tempted but Hertz's prices on one way rentals has kept me (particularly in Australia) and the generally good upgrades I get.
I will have a re- think at the end if this week though :(! ( and after I've emailed Mr Cunningham).
Two new pairs of shoes and a lovely cashmere wrap has cheered me up though :) .

Another update - it seems like Mr DL has been charged for a whole new reservation.....
I have however received an email today from Mr Cunnigham ( which to be honest I'm stunned about). He had promised a response by end of business Tuesday.
We'll see how this pans out.

Well the upshot of this was I had a phone call this morning from Mr Cunninghams office . The chap was fantastic -,admitted they'd blundered big time and that it all related to the incident last year where I was charged when I shouldn't have been. It appears that although it was all sorted eventually they forgot to advise Hertz Espana so it looked as if I still owed money on a rental. The chap advised that all money paid by MR DL will be refunded and the charge for this rental waived.
He also said some credit would be applied to another upcoming rental I have.
I was happy with this resolution and then had a call from the manager in Malaga offering his apologies and the offer of an upgraded car if I chose to return to the airport.
Given we're an hour South I declined his offer but thanked him for his sincere apologies. A few minutes later I had an email from Mr Cunninghsms office confirming the resolution but with the news that I'd have to return to AGP to be added to the rental reservation if I wanted to drive .......
So back we went - the manager was super and seemed truly sorry about the inconvenience that had been caused . The car was changed for something nicer fuel used waived ( just as well because it had mainly been the two return trips to AGP).
Hopefully this is now the end and we can enjoy the rest of the week :) .

I was told by Hertz at Edinburgh Airport that Hertz in Spain is often operated by a franchise partner and is not "proper" Hertz. I'm not sure whether that applies in your case, and whether it should really make a difference... but I'd been commenting on the woeful service we'd had from a couple of Hertz locations in Spain and she said that was probably why. Their cars were certainly older and grubbier.
