I cannot believe the amount of chargers, adaptors, battery chargers, sat nav and phones my husband is taking on our trip to America tomorrow! He will certainly need an extra case to accommodate the long leads for the laptop and ipad. Also, must not forget the camera and video camera plus all the other little gadgets he's snuck in. We are only going for 3 weeks but he insists on being able to keep up to date with his business emails etc. What I would like to know, is this normal ?|

Not a man, but I am guilty of very much the same !!!
My niece despairs as I take a camcorder, iPad, digital camera - all of which my iPhone could take the place of apparently !! Then there's the travel kettle ....

I quite often have a large bag of wires, gadgets and other crucial accessories especially if we are going on an RV trip. My wife often asks "do you really need all those?"

On my last trip I took:
Two cameras (one less than last year) with two charges and two USB leads.
A tablet with charger/USB lead (double as an e-reader so left the Kindle at home)
A USB adapter to charge in the car. (not required as car had one anyway.)
A small laptop and charger.
A mini hard drive and USB lead to back up photos.
A mobile phone and charger.

Mrs D took one camera charger and USB lead.
One Kindle and charger.

We did have a rather bulky bag of leads and chargers.

I've pared down somewhat over the last couple of years. Used to take a camera, but now my iPhone is just a good for most things. Have a video recorder but never used it last time I took it on holiday. So now it's iPhone, iPad, and kindle and the leads attach to one charger with multi USB ports and interchangeable plugs. The charger and leads, along with a charged battery pack to give some juice if not near an outlet, all fit in a pencil case. Simples.

So, he is not alone then! I had better not let him see these replies as he will probably say - "See, I'm not the only one and it is quite normal" Gone are the days when one packed a few clothes, shoes, toiletries, sunscreen and books!
At the moment he is having trouble downloading all his photos from his iphone to the laptop so as to free up space on his phone, but it is on a go-slow taking forever so he has not started his packing yet!

Now that is a real toy. I just need a snowboard, a canoe and a mountain bike.

depends on the trip on what I take.
Lots of toys, but I cut down on the chargers by getting a 7in1 usb charge cable from Ebay. They are cheap enough & have all the latest charge connectors.

I have slimmed down a lot these days by using my phone for sat nav & making sure I can stay connected using an ipad - so need for a laptop (i am on a leisure holiday, not a working holiday). My camera's double up as camcorders - but I try to only take a selection of lenses.
I am thinking about getting a Go Pro or SJ4000 sports camera though.

Yup my husband is the same, plus our main holiday every February also needs all the bits and pieces for fitting our GPS to our ski-doo handlebars and the chargers for our comunicators for our crash helmets, of which we have two types in case one set packs up in the extreme cold :-( - your getting away lightly !

I'd forgotten my QC15s, sometimes take them, and sometimes a speaker but many hotel room these days have an iPod / iPhone dock.

But we have space as we leave out -

3 different shampoos with matching conditions, in bottle sizes that would last us a year.
4 set of clothes per day with additional evening wear that can only be worn once and the matching accessories.
Make up.
8 pairs of shoes/boots/etc. per day away.
Various handbags and purses.
Curling tongs.
Hair straightener.
Hair drier.
Magazines.
Snacks.

:) :) :)

Don't get me started on the wife's makeup... I'm sure what she takes on holiday weighs more than all my gadgets put together. Also she has to take the original cable even if one cable can charge multiple things!!

I'm a bit in love with my power cube with USB ports built in. I used the travel edition for my trip out here and it was really useful to also not carry lots of USB chargers for different countries. I got it on Amazon and it was pretty cheap.
