I am going to ring FC itomorrow hoping to book my holiday flights for next year.

Using the ITA matrix, I think I have worked out correctly the cost of the M fare for my destination, which will be about £726. Then I hope to upgrade into the available G fare bucket using FC miles.

I know there's going to be additional taxes & surcharges to pay for the upgrade fare and I was wondering if there was a way of finding out roughly what this cost is likely to be before I call them. Thanks y)

If you do a dummy booking then click on "view fare breakdown" it will give you the taxes and surcharges. Do it for both UC and economy and then subtract one from the other which will give you the amount you need to add to the existing fare.

I think that was roughly what was added to my MCO upgrade for next years flights.

+1 - This is the method I use and it has always been within pennies :)

If it's of any help. I upgraded an O to a G (presumably via an M) at the airport in Atlanta over the weekend for $350 & 20,000 miles one way. Seemed like a bargain so I went for it! Good luck with your searches.

Hi thanks for your replies.

For interest, I telephoned FC today and booked our March flights LGW to MCO and then JFK to LHR.

On that ITA matrix an M fare showed up as £727. When upgrading to a G fare, the additional taxes and surcharges made the fare work out at £888.10 per person + the miles.

Now just waiting for a one way Jet Blue fare to be released, taking us from Sarasota up the JFK, then we are all set y)
