just to say a quick thank you to all who helped me pluck up the courage to try the ex dub route, i just bagged dub-man aer lingus, virgin man-mco in upper, mco-lgw in upper, aer lingus lgw-dub £967 !!!
i've already reserved my preferred 9K, i was amazed at how simple this was and saved a very healthy sum !
seeing as i actually live in n.ireland, i wonder would it be frowned upon by virgin if by total accident missed my flight from dub and found my self in manchester in time to catch the mco flight ??

VS will happily cancel your ticket if you do that and then keep most of the fare only refunding the taxes and airport fees.

You have to start the flights as ticketed.

You can forget the last leg but NEVER the first.

Besides, depending where you live in NI, it should be relatively easy to get to Dublin than, for example, West Cork. :w

Hi,

Having experienced my first upper trip earlier this year I find myself wanting to turn left for my next flight! However looking at doing the ex Dublin to make it financially viable.

As I've not done one before ill be grateful if someone could check my plans work.

Looking to go Orlando, and hoping to do my positioning flight and return to uk one day, then take LGW to MCO the next. That being the case can I travel with just hand luggage to and from Dublin? Or will I not see my luggage until Orlando?

Im looking to book;

LGW- Dub one booking,
then

Dub - LGW, overnight at home as I live near Gatwick. Then next day take my luggage and do the desired trip.

Then coming home fly to Gatwick but book the return trip to Dublin from Heathrow?

Would this work ok?

Much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer.

Yes you can do the LGW-DUB-LGW leg with just hand luggage.

Thanks everyone.

Another quick question, BA are flying the first leg from DUB-LHR, then VS from LHR to SFO. Will my bags be checked in the whole way? Some people say that they have a baggage interline agreement, some say they don't... Got 2:45 at LHR, so should be loads of time either way. (Well loads in comparison to my finnair connection in HEL next week, 55 minutes)

The first time I did an ex-EU flight on BA->VS, my bags were checked the whole way through.

There is an interline agreement between BA and VS (and vice versa).

BA will interline when the tickets are on the same PNR.

If not then they won't.

I think that is where the confusion sets in.

The exception to this is if the next flight is on a One World Partner when they will - as long as minimum connections times etc are met. However VS is not in One World.

Thanks everyone...

I know I'm being a pain, but entertain me. So I have two PNRs. One works on the Virgin Website, and shows the whole itinerary (including the BA flights from DUB-LHR) however this PNR doesn't work on the BA website. I have another for the BA website, which once again shows all the initerary (including the VS flights) however it doesn't work on the VS website.

Thoughts? The BA PNR is booked under the same ticket number as the VS PNR (a VS ticket number)

That's normal for these type of bookings.

When you booked the flight with the agent, they book the flight with VS (who generate a PNR for the whole itinerary and generate an e-ticket) but because the itinerary involves a different airline for some of the flight legs, the VS system books those flights with BA, which in turn generates a BA PNR.

As all the flights are on the same e-ticket, both airlines see both sets of flights but because BA and VS use different reservation systems only their own PNR's work on their own systems, though essentially both airline's PNR contain the same info.

I hope that makes sense!!

That is normal (well is for me!) I assume that EXpedia and BA use the same GDS (ticketing system basically) and Virgin use a different one hence why you have a separate VS PNR.

Hello there, inspired by al the great deals I've read about on here I have looked into joining the ex-DUB club and I have a quick question if someone wouldn't mind helping me out?

I plan to fly:
LHR-DUB 23/07 Are Lingus and spend the day there flying back that night
DUB-LHR - BA and staying in London overnight (at home)
LHR - IAD for two weeks holiday
IAD - LHR 6/08 (arrives +1)

My question is about the final leg which I don't plan to use back to DUB. I have booked that for the following day 08/08 as I wanted to get my luggage and not have it sent to DUB. Will I be able to get my luggage since I have a whole day stopover before flying on my final leg?

Sorry so horribly convoluted.
thanks

Please can anyone help? About to book the flights as price going up - I just need to know if I can travel to Dub and back with just had luggage and the following day when I start my main journey from LHR to IAD, is it okay if I turn up with our suitcases then? Would really appreciate an answer from anyone in the know on this :)

Yes, that's fine. We're leaving our cases at at Heathrow overnight before collecting them on our return from Dublin to check them in at the Virgin desk.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Booked the flights today and saved over £3k! Very happy. The woman who booked the flight at Virgin was less than pleased and really scrutinised me but she made the booking all the same. y)
thanks

Just to remind people to check other EU starting points....

I've been planning another jaunt over to South Africa later this year for a family occasion but have been waiting for confirmation of the dates. Living in Ireland I have been a direct beneficiary of the ex-DUB (and indeed ex-ORK) fares especially with BA but I really have missed flying with VS. At one stage BA was giving me a good price in the sale to Durban but I still hadn't been given the dates of the occasion so I couldn't book. To be honest, it really didn't bother me that much as I haven't been overwhelmed by the BA experience and once I had been given the dates of the occasion it was off to my trusty friend, Expedia to see what it could offer.

The main problem with Expedia is that when I ask for fares to Durban with VS as my preferred carrier, it routes me on the VS400 to Dubai and thence on Emirates. Thanks, but no thanks! Ah, well, let's try ORK to JNB. Nice! Very nice! A saving of a couple of grand on the VS fare LHR-JNB. y) I was on the point of booking when something made me look at ex-AMS. It was even cheaper again - by €500!! :0 :0 Well if you lot over in the UK can do a quick flit over to Dublin and back to save a packet, then I can surely take the scenic route to LHR via AMS for the same reason. :o)

Just remind me not to eat the sausage on the BA flight!

DUB tends to be cheapest only for USA destinations.

If heading east (or south), AMS or BRU are usually cheapest - though it's worth looking elsewhere as well: Oslo is often a good bet for the far east or Australia for example.

I got a good deal from Cork to JNB and DUR last year.

I think the likes of Dublin and Brussels have an appeal that other EU places don't have, ease of access (though AMS isn't bad either). Those down the lower half can get the Eurostar (I can do station to Brussels in like 4.5 hours on Eurostar from Wolverhampton). Dublin has plentiful services from multiple airports, Brum, which I barely use due to lack of routes, has like 8 flights a day to there...

Copenhagen and Oslo might be cheaper, but my positioning flight might cost a fortune to start. I get the impression this is much less of an issue for the likes of positioning if you start from Heathrow...

Managed to bag two ex DUB UC flights to LAS .... took a bit of getting but worth it

Flying Ryanair LGW to DUB - four hours in DUB then Aer Lingus DUB-LGW

Lovely overnight stay at the HIlton, full club-house experience prior to departure to LAS

In-bound, managed to bag LGW-DUB leg 22 hrs post LAS-LGW, hopefully alleviating any possible baggage problems

For under £1250 pp
