Chicago Check-in Opening Time & Lounge?

As per the subject - leaving ORD today and wondered what time the check-in opens? Also, any views on the VAA shared lounge in ORD?

The lounge is barely more than a place to sit, very limited food/drink, certainly no Clubhouse! I think we got up there around 3 1/2 hours before the flight and had no problem checking our (many) bags.

ORD is another one of those US airports where you don't want to be there any longer than is necessary.
