HI all.

I have 10 months until my dirty 30 and 6/8 of us are going to Vegas for a week.

We have 10 months to go. When is the best, cheapest time to book flights? Quite expensive at the moment at nearly £1000 per person for economy return.

Any advice is welcomed .

Thanks

When in April are you going?

Easter is at the end of March next year and the school holidays will extend into early April and that affects prices.

Looking at 5th until 12th but flexibleish.

Ex Dublin on VS43/44 is just £1198 on those dates .... In Upper Class :)

Have a read of this thread which is all about ex-EU flights. Also applies to a number of other european airports.

I can't seem to get it to work.

Who do you book it thought?

Expedia

Perfect. £1200 return. Do you have to fly the Dublin legs?

YES

If you miss the first flight the whole of the itinerary will be cancelled.

On the way back however ...

Ok Brilliant. Just to clarify.

So fly one way to Dublin. Return same day on said ticket. Fly next day to Vegas and that it? As simple as that?

If it were me going on these dates I'd book through Opodo (as they seem to offer better flight combinations than Expedia). I'd do a hop from Gatwick to Dublin late afternoon the day before you want to fly on the VS to Vegas (there are Aer Lingus & Ryanair options). I'd have my ex DUB ticket flying me on the Aer Lingus 7pm flight back to Gatwick. Wouldn't take any luggage so nice and easy. Then I'd overnight it at somewhere like Premier Inn Gatwick (rooms often only £29 if booked well in advance). I'd also have placed my luggage in the room earlier in the afternoon before the hop to Dublin. A chilled evening and then wake up next morning and drop bags at VS Upper Class check in followed by pampering in the Clubhouse & then the VS43 to Vegas at 11.20.

For the return flight it's obviously the VS home but I would have been careful to ensure that the final ticketed sector to DUB is from LHR and not LGW. That way your luggage can't be through checked to DUB by the checkin staff at LAS.

Opodo offer this combination on those dates for £1219 upper class - not bad if VS are charging £1000 for economy on the identical flights :)

*if* you don't mind going a bit earlier then you should be able to catch the end of March Madness (think it ends April 4th)
This is a month long basketball tournament for colleges in the US.

This also happens to run during spring break (though most schools are out during first 2 weeks of march)!!!, so the place is full & lively with tons of parties (pool parties!) & cheap booze deals.

If that dont interest you, then the 5th should be fine as spring break & the basketball will be over.... could always start your birthday with a night in Dublin on the Guiness.

(To those that are in the know)

Once you return to the UK (I.e Gatwick) before you fly back to DUB, are you cases and luggage put onto the collection belt as normal? Then allowing you to either go and check in for the DUB return, or just simply slip out of the airport?

And then if you do choose to slip out, you'll still get all the applicable VS miles and TP's? Do you get a normal VS online reference number to do ONCI and the like as you normally would too?

Thanks :)

If you onward connection is LGW-DUB, then your bags will be checked through, no need (or opportunity) to collect them. In this case, you will need to continue to Dublin.

This is what Vegascrazy has mentioned by booking the final sector from a different airport e.g. LHR-DUB as opposed to LGW-DUB, this forces you to have to collect bags as they cannot be transferred between LGW-LHR - leaving you free to go home.

You'll receive the VS miles and TP's applicable to the sectors you have flown as normal.

Depends who you book with for your PNR (booking ref) On Expedia you'll get your VS Ref on the confirmation. For Opodo, you may have to look the booking up on the VS site, easy to do and allows instant ability to pick seats etc.
